Translation

✧ The rebellion of Damascus against the army of Jaysh b. Khumārawayh, the disagreement of his troops with him, and his killing In this year, a group of the commanders of Jaysh b. Khumārawayh's army rose against him and openly opposed him, saying: "We do not accept you as amir, so step aside until we appoint your paternal uncle as amir." The reason for that was that when he assumed power as a young boy, he brought near the youths and the lowly, and he gave himself over to listening to their words. They turned his intention against his commanders and companions, and he began to speak ill of them, disparage them, and show determination to replace them and seize their benefits and wealth. So they agreed together to kill him and install his uncle. That reached him, and he did not conceal it; rather, he let his tongue loose against them. Some of them parted from him, and Ṭughj b. Juff, the amir of Damascus, renounced him. The commanders who parted from him traveled to Baghdad—they were Muḥammad b. Isḥāq b. Kundājīq, Khāqān al-Mufliḥī, Badr b. Juff, the brother of Ṭughj, and others of the commanders of Egypt. They took the desert route and left behind their families and wealth. They wandered for days, and a group of their men died of thirst. They emerged two stages above al-Kūfah and came to al-Muʿtaḍid, who bestowed robes of honor upon them and treated them well. The rest of the troops in Egypt remained in opposition to Ibn Khumārawayh. His secretary ʿAlī b. Aḥmad al-Mādhurāʾī asked them to withdraw that day, so they returned. Jaysh killed two paternal uncles of his, and the troops came early to him. He threw the two heads at them, and the troops rushed upon him and killed him. They plundered his house, plundered Egypt, and burned it. They installed his brother Hārūn in the emirate after him, and his tenure lasted nine months.
