النَّيْرُوزِ الْمُعْتَضِدِيِّ فِي سَنَةُ اثْنَتَيْنِ وَثَمَانِينَ وَمِائَتَيْنِ أَمَرَ الْمُعْتَضِدُ بِالْكِتَابَةِ إِلَى الْأَعْمَالِ كُلِّهَا وَالْبِلَادِ جَمِيعِهَا بِتَرْكِ افْتِتَاحِ الْخَرَاجِ فِي النَّيْرُوزِ الْعَجَمِيِّ ، وَتَأْخِيرِ ذَلِكَ إِلَى الْحَادِيَ عَشَرَ مِنْ حُزَيْرَانَ، وَسَمَّاهُ النَّيْرُوزَ الْمُعْتَضِدَيَّ، وَأُنْشِئَتِ الْكُتُبُ بِذَلِكَ مِنَ الْمَوْصِلِ، وَالْمُعْتَضِدُ بِهَا وَأَرَادَ التَّرْفِيهَ عَنِ النَّاسِ، وَالرِّفْقَ بِهِمْ. ونَهَى الْمُعْتَضِدُ النَّاسَ أَنْ يَعْمَلُوا فِي يَوْمِ النَّيرُوزِ مَا كَانُوا يَتَعَاطَوْنَهُ مِنْ إِيقَادِ النِّيرَانِ وَصَبِّ الْمَاءِ وَغَيْرِ ذَلِكَ مِنَ الْأَفْعَالِ الْمُشَابِهَةِ لِأَفْعَالِ الْمَجُوسِ وَمَنَعَ مِنْ حَمْلِ هَدَايَا الْفَلَّاحِينَ إِلَى الْمُقْطَعِينِ فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ
Translation
✧ al-Nayrūz al-Muʿtaḍidī In the year two hundred and eighty-two, al-Muʿtaḍid ordered that letters be written to all the provinces and all the regions commanding the abandonment of opening the land tax on the Persian Nayrūz, and the postponement of that to the eleventh of Ḥuzayrān, and he named it al-Nayrūz al-Muʿtaḍidī. The letters concerning that were composed from al-Mawṣil, while al-Muʿtaḍid was there. He intended thereby to give ease to the people and to be gentle with them. And al-Muʿtaḍid forbade the people from doing on the day of Nayrūz what they used to engage in of kindling fires, pouring water, and other such actions resembling the actions of the Magians. He also forbade the carrying of the peasants' gifts to the fief-holders on that day.
