ذِكْرُ عِدَّةِ حَوَادِثَ لَمَّا افْتَتَحَ بْنُ أَبِي السَّاجِ مَرَاغَةَ، بَعْدَ حَرْبٍ شَدِيدَةٍ وَحِصَارٍ عَظِيمٍ، أَخَذَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بَعْدَ أَنْ أَمَّنَهُ وَأَصْحَابَهُ، وَقَيَّدَهُ وَحَبَسَهُ، وَقَرَّرَهُ بِجَمِيعِ أَمْوَالِهِ ثُمَّ قَتَلَهُ. وَفِيهَا مَاتَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ أَبِي دُلَفَ ، وَقَامَ بَعْدَهُ أَخُوهُ عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ. وَفِيهَا افْتَتَحَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ ثَوْرٍ عَمَّانَ، وَبَعَثَ بِرُءُوسِ جَمَاعَةٍ مِنْ أَهْلِهَا. وَفِيهَا تُوُفِّيَ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ الْمُعْتَمِدِ فِي رَبِيعٍ الْآخِرِ ، وَكَانَ يُنَادِمُ الْمُعْتَضِدَ. وَفِيهَا دَخَلَ عَمْرُو بْنُ اللَّيْثِ نَيْسَابُورَ فِي جُمَادَى الْأُولَى. وَفِيهَا وَجَّهَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي السَّاجِ ثَلَاثِينَ نَفْسًا مِنَ الْخَوَارِجِ مِنْ طَرِيقِ الْمَوْصِلِ فَضُرِبَتْ أَعْنَاقُ أَكْثَرِهِمْ، وَحُبِسَ الْبَاقُونَ. وَفِيهَا دَخَلَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبَّا طَرَسُوسَ لِلْغَزَاةِ مِنْ قِبَلِ خُمَارَوَيْهِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ طُولُونَ، وَدَخَلَ بَعْدَهُ بَدْرٌ الْحَمَّامِيُّ، فَغَزَوْا جَمِيعًا مَعَ الْعُجَيْفِيِّ أَمِيرِ طَرَسُوسَ حَتَّى بَلَغُوا الْبَلْقَسُونَ. وَفِيهَا غَزَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ السَّامَانِيِّ بِلَادَ التُّرْكِ ، وَافْتَتَحَ مَدِينَةَ مَلِكِهِمْ، وَأَسَرَ أَبَاهُ، وَامْرَأَتَهُ خَاتُونَ وَنَحْوًا مِنْ عَشَرَةِ آلَافٍ، وَقَتَلَ مِنْهُمْ خَلْقًا كَثِيرًا، وَغَنِمَ مِنَ الدَّوَابِّ مَا لَا يُعْلَمُ عَدَدًا، وَأَصَابَ الْفَارِسُ مِنَ الْغَنِيمَةِ أَلْفَ دِرْهَمٍ. وَفِيهَا تُوُفِّيَ رَاشِدٌ مَوْلَى الْمُوَفَّقِ بِالدِّينَوَرْدِ، وَحُمِلَ إِلَى بَغْدَاذَ فِي رَمَضَانَ. وَفِي شَوَّالٍ مَاتَ مَسْرُورٌ الْبَلْخِيُّ . وَفِيهَا غَارَتِ الْمِيَاهُ بِالرَّيِّ، وَطَبَرِسْتَانَ، حَتَّى بَلَغَ الْمَاءُ ثَلَاثَةَ أَرْطَالٍ بِدِرْهَمٍ، وَغَلَتِ الْأَسْعَارُ. وَفِي شَوَّالٍ انْكَسَفَ الْقَمَرُ، وَأَصْبَحَ أَهْلُ دَبِيلَ وَالدُّنْيَا مُظْلِمَةٌ ، وَدَامَتِ الظُّلْمَةُ عَلَيْهِمْ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ عِنْدَ الْعَصْرِ هَبَّتْ رِيحٌ سَوْدَاءُ فَدَامَتْ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ زُلْزِلُوا فَخُرِّبَتِ الْمَدِينَةُ، وَلَمْ يَبْقَ مِنْ مَنَازِلِهِمْ إِلَّا قَدْرُ مِائَةِ دَارٍ، وَزُلْزِلُوا بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ خَمْسَ مِرَارٍ، وَكَانَ جُمْلَةُ مَنْ أُخْرِجَ مِنْ تَحْتِ الرَّدْمِ مِائَةُ أَلْفٍ وَخَمْسِينَ أَلْفًا كُلُّهُمْ مَوْتَى. وَحَجَّ بِالنَّاسِ هَذِهِ السَّنَةَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ الْمَعْرُوفُ بِابْنِ تُرُنْجَةَ. وَفِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ أَمَرَ الْمُعْتَضِدُ بِتَسْهِيلِ عَقَبَةِ حُلْوَانَ فَغَرِمَ عَلَيْهَا عِشْرِينَ أَلْفَ دِينَارٍ وَكَانَ النَّاسُ يَلْقَوْنَ مِنْهَا شِدَّةً عَظِيمَةً، وَفِيهَا وَسَّعَ الْمُعْتَضِدُ جَامِعَ الْمَنْصُورِ بِإِضَافَةِ دَارِ الْمَنْصُورِ إِلَيْهِ، وَغَرِمَ عَلَيْهِ عِشْرِينَ أَلْفَ دِينَارٍ، وَكَانَتِ الدَّارُ قِبْلِيَّةً فَبَنَاهَا مَسْجِدًا عَلَى حِدَةٍ وَفَتَحَ بَيْنَهُمَا سَبْعَةَ عَشَرَ بَابًا وَحَوَّلَ الْمِنْبَرَ وَالْمِحْرَابِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ لِيَكُونَ فِي قِبْلَةِ الْجَامِعِ عَلَى عَادَتِهِ. قَالَ الْخَطِيبُ: وَزَادَ بَدْرٌ مَوْلَى الْمُعْتَضِدِ الْمُسْقِطَاتِ مِنْ قَصْرِ الْمَنْصُورِ الْمَعْرُوفَةِ بِالْبَدْرِيَّةِ، فِي هَذَا الْوَقْتِ.
Translation
✧ Mention of several events When Ibn Abī al-Sāj conquered Marāgha after a fierce war and a great siege, he seized ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Ḥasan after granting him and his companions safe-conduct, bound him, imprisoned him, and then after demanding from him all his wealth, killed him. In this year Aḥmad b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Abī Dulaf died, and his brother ʿUmar b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz succeeded him. In this year Muḥammad b. Thawr conquered ʿAmmān and sent the heads of a group of its people. In this year Jaʿfar b. al-Muʿtamid died in Rabīʿ II; he had been a drinking companion of al-Muʿtaḍid. In this year ʿAmr b. al-Layth entered Naysābūr in Jumādā I. In this year Muḥammad b. Abī al-Sāj sent thirty Kharijites by way of al-Mawṣil; the necks of most of them were struck, and the rest were imprisoned. In this year Aḥmad b. Abbā entered Ṭarsūs for a raid on behalf of Khumārawayh b. Aḥmad b. Ṭūlūn, and after him Badr al-Ḥammāmī entered, so they raided together with al-ʿUjayfī, the commander of Ṭarsūs, until they reached al-Balqasūn. In this year Ismāʿīl b. al-Sāmānī raided the land of the Turks, conquered the city of their king, captured his father and his wife Khātūn and about ten thousand captives, killed a great number of them, and seized as booty an uncountable number of riding beasts; each horseman received a thousand dirhams from the booty. In this year Rāshid, the freedman of al-Muwaffaq, died at al-Dīnawar and was carried to Baghdādh in Ramaḍān. In Shawwāl, Masrūr al-Balkhī died. In this year the waters at al-Rayy and Ṭabaristān sank so low that water reached three raṭls for a dirham, and prices rose. In Shawwāl the moon was eclipsed, and the people of Dabīl and the surrounding region found the world darkened; the darkness lasted over them. Then at the time of the afternoon prayer a black wind blew and continued until a third of the night. When a third of the night had passed, they were struck by an earthquake, and the city was ruined. No more than about a hundred houses of their dwellings remained. They were then struck by earthquakes five times more. The total number of those brought out from under the rubble was one hundred and fifty thousand, all dead. The people were led in the pilgrimage this year by Abū Bakr Muḥammad b. Hārūn b. Isḥāq, known as Ibn Turunja. In this year al-Muʿtaḍid ordered the leveling of the pass of Ḥulwān, and he spent twenty thousand dinars on it. The people had experienced great hardship from it. In this year al-Muʿtaḍid enlarged the mosque of al-Manṣūr by adding the palace of al-Manṣūr to it, and he spent twenty thousand dinars on it. The palace was to the south, so he built it as a separate mosque, opened seventeen doors between them, and moved the pulpit and the miḥrāb to the mosque so that it would be in the qibla of the congregational mosque, as was its custom. Al-Khaṭīb said: Badr, the freedman of al-Muʿtaḍid, added the porticoes of the palace of al-Manṣūr known as al-Badriyya at this time.
