Translation

✧ The Turmoil in Tarsus In this year, the people in Tarsus rose up against the governor Muhammad b. Musa and seized him. The reason for that was that when al-Muwaffaq died, he had a servant among his close attendants called Raghib. He chose to undertake jihad, so he traveled to Tarsus intending to reside there. When he reached Syria, he sent ahead the mounts, equipment, tents, and other things he had with him to Tarsus, while he himself went quickly to Khumarawayh to visit him and inform him of his intention. When he met him in Damascus, Khumarawayh honored him, liked him, and enjoyed his company, and Raghib felt embarrassed to request from him permission to proceed to Tarsus, so his stay with him lengthened. His companions thought that Khumarawayh had seized him, so they spread that news, and the people considered it grave, saying: "He goes to a man who intended jihad in the path of God and seizes him!" Then they rioted against their governor Muhammad, the cousin of Khumarawayh, seized him, and said: "He shall remain in prison until your cousin releases Raghib." They plundered his house and violated his women. The news reached Khumarawayh, so he informed Raghib of it and permitted him to go to Tarsus. When he arrived there, the people of Tarsus released their governor. When they released him, he said to them: "May God curse your protection!" and departed from them to Jerusalem, where he resided. When he left Tarsus, al-ʿUjayfi returned to its governorship.
