ذِكْرُ غَزْوِ الرُّومِ وَوَفَاةِ يَازْمَانَ وفِي سنة ثمان وسبعين ومائتين، فِي جُمَادَى الْآخِرَةِ، دَخَلَ أَحْمَدُ الْعُجَيْفِيُّ طَرَسُوسَ، وَغَزَا مَعَ يَازْمَانَ الصَّائِفَةَ، فَبَلَغُوا شَكَنْدَ، فَأَصَابَتْ يَازْمَانَ شَظِيَّةٌ مِنْ حَجَرِ مَنْجَنِيقٍ فِي أَضْلَاعِهِ، فَارْتَحَلَ عَنْهَا بَعْدَ أَنْ أَشْرَفَ عَلَى أَخْذِهَا، فَتُوُفِّيَ فِي الطَّرِيقِ مُنْتَصَفَ رَجَبٍ، وَحُمِلَ إِلَى طَرَسُوسَ فَدُفِنَ بِهَا. وَكَانَ قَدْ أَطَاعَ خُمَارَوَيْهِ بْنَ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ طُولُونَ، فَلَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ خَلَفَهُ ابْنُ عُجَيْفٍ، وَكَتَبَ إِلَى خُمَارَوَيْهِ يُخْبِرُهُ بِمَوْتِهِ، فَأَقَرَّهُ عَلَى وِلَايَةِ طَرَسُوسَ، وَأَمَدَّهُ بِالْخَيْلِ، وَالسِّلَاحِ، وَالذَّخَائِرِ، وَغَيْرِهَا، ثُمَّ عَزَلَهُ، وَاسْتَعْمَلَ عَلَيْهَا ابْنَ عَمِّهِ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ مُوسَى بْنِ طُولُونَ.
Translation
✧ Mention of the expedition against the Byzantines and the death of Yāzamān In the year two hundred and seventy-eight, in Jumādā al-Ākhirah, Aḥmad al-ʿUjayfī entered Ṭarsūs and raided with Yāzamān in the summer expedition. They reached Shakand, and a splinter from a mangonel stone struck Yāzamān in his ribs. He departed from it after being on the verge of taking it, and he died on the road in the middle of Rajab. He was carried to Ṭarsūs and buried there. He had been obedient to Khumārawayh b. Aḥmad b. Ṭūlūn. When he died, Ibn ʿUjayf succeeded him and wrote to Khumārawayh informing him of his death. He confirmed him in the governorship of Ṭarsūs and supplied him with horses, weapons, stores, and other things. Then he dismissed him and appointed over it his cousin Muḥammad b. Mūsā b. Ṭūlūn.
