Translation
✧ THE OATH OF ALLEGIANCE TO AL-MUʿTAḌID AS HEIR APPARENT When al-Muwaffaq died, the commanders gathered and pledged allegiance to his son Abū al-ʿAbbās as heir apparent after al-Mufawwiḍ, son of al-Muʿtamid. He was given the title al-Muʿtaḍid bi-llāh, and the Friday sermon was delivered in his name after al-Mufawwiḍ. That was in Ṣafar, when seven nights remained. His father's companions rallied around him, and to him was assigned what had been his father's in terms of appointment, dismissal, cutting off, connecting, binding, and loosing.
