ذِكْرُ مَنْ تُوُفِّيَ سنة اثنتين وسبعين ومائتين مِنَ الْأَكَابِرِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ بْنِ رَشِيدَيْنِ الْمِصْرِيُّ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ بْنِ رَشِيدَيْنِ الْمِصْرِيُّ، يُكَنَّى: أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ . كَانَ أَحَدَ حُفَّاظِ الْحَدِيثِ، وَأَهْلِ الصَّنْعَةِ. تُوُفِّيَ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْأَرْبِعَاءِ، وَدُفِنَ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ مِنْ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ دَاوُدَ الْأَسَدِيُّ [إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ دَاوُدَ الْأَسَدِيُّ، أَسَدُ خُزَيْمَةَ يُكَنَّى: أَبَا إِسْحَاقٍ، وَيُعْرَفُ: بِابْنِ أَبِي دَاوُدَ الْبُرُلُّسِيِّ]. لِأَنَّهُ كَانَ لَزِمَ الْبُرُلُّسَ مَاحُوزًا مِنْ مَوَاحِيزِ مِصْرَ. وُلِدَ بِصُورٍ، وَأَبُوهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ: كَوَفِيٌّ، وَكَانَ ثِقَةً مِنْ حُفَاظِ الْحَدِيثِ ، تُوُفِّيَ بِمِصْرَ فِي شَعْبَانَ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ ]. إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ، وَأَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الْجَشَّاسُ [إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ، وَأَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الْجَشَّاسُ ]. سَمِعَ أَبَا نُعَيْمٍ، وَالْقَعْنَبِيَّ، وَعَفَّانَ، وَغَيْرَهُمْ، وَكَانَ ثِقَةً . تُوُفِّيَ فِي مُحَرَّمِ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ ]. جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ، أَبُو الْفَضْلِ الْبَزَّازُ [جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ، أَبُو الْفَضْلِ الْبَزَّازُ]. مِنْ أَهْلٍ سُرَّ مَنْ رَأَى، حَدَّثَ عَنْ أَبِي نُعَيْمٍ، وَقَبِيصَةَ، وَعَفَّانَ. رَوَى عَنْهُ: ابْنُ صَاعِدٍ، وَابْنُ أَبِي دَاوُدَ، وَغَيْرِهِمَا، وَكَانَ أَحَدَ الشُّهُودِ الْمُعَدَّلِينَ. قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي حَاتِمٍ: سَمِعْتُ مِنْهُ مَعَ أَبِي، وَهُوَ صَدُوقٌ ، غَرِقَ بِطَرِيقِ الْبَصْرَةِ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ ]. الْحَسَنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْعَطَّارُ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْعَطَّارُ. حَدَّثَ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ الْحُبَابِ، وَقَبِيصَةُ، وَأَبِي نُعَيْمٍ، وَغَيْرِهِمْ. رَوَى عَنْهُ: ابْنُ مَخْلَدٍ، وَأَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ الْأَصَمُّ، وَغَيْرُهُمَا. وَكَانَ ثِقَةً . وعن الْحَسَنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْعَطَّارُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ هَارُونَ يَقُولُ: كُنَّا فِي الْبَحْرِ سَائِرِينَ إِلَى إِفْرِيقِيَةَ، فَرَكَدَتْ عَلَيْنَا الرِّيحُ، فَأَرْسَيْنَا إِلَى مَوْضِعٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ "الْبَرْطُونُ" وَكَانَ مَعَنَا صَبِيٌّ صَقْلَبِيٌّ يُقَالُ لَهُ: أَيْمَنُ، وَكَانَ مَعَهُ شِصٌّ يَصْطَادُ بِهِ السَّمَكَ. قَالَ: فَاصْطَادَ سَمَكَةً نَحْوًا مِنْ شِبْرٍ أَوْ أَقَلَّ. قَالَ: وَكَانَ عَلَى صَنِيفَةِ أُذُنِهَا الْيُمْنَى مَكْتُوبٌ: "لَا إِلْهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ" وَعَلَى قَذْلِهَا، وَعَلَى صَنِيفَةِ أُذُنِهَا الْيُسْرَى مَكْتُوبٌ: "مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ". قَالَ: وَكَانَ أَبْيَنَ مِنْ نَقْشٍ عَلَى حَجَرٍ، وَكَانَتِ السَّمَكَةُ بَيْضَاءَ، وَالْكِتَابَةُ سَوْدَاءَ، كَأَنَّهُ كُتِبَ [ بِحِبْرٍ ] قَالَ: فَقَذَفْنَاهَا فِي الْبَحْرِ، وَمَنَعَ النَّاسَ أَنْ يَصِيدُوا مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْمَوْضِعِ [ حَتَّى أَوْغَلْنَا ]. تُوُفِّيَ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْعَطَّارُ فِي صَفَرِ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ وَهْبٍ [سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ وَهْبٍ. تُوُفِّيَ فِي الْحَبْسِ فِي صَفَرِ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ، فَرَثَاهُ الْعَبْشَمِيُّ فَقَالَ: كَأَنَّ الْأَرْضَ لَمَّا قِيلَ أَوْدَى سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ وَهْبٍ بِي تَمِيدُ أَبَا أَيُّوبَ كَنْتَ لَنَا غِيَاثًا وَرُكْنًا إِنْ عَدَا دَهْرٌ شَدِيدُ فَلَوْ قَبِلَتْ مَنِيَّتُهُ بَدِيلًا لَأَعْطَيْنَا الْمَنِيَّةَ مَا تُرِيدُ لَأَنْ عُطِّلَتْ دَوَاوِينُ الْمَعَالِي وَأَضْحَتْ لَا يُعَدُّ لَهَا عَدِيدُ لَقَدْ أَبْقَى مَحَاسِنَ خَالِدَاتٍ تُبِيدُ الرَّاسِيَاتُ وَلَا تَبِيدُ] عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ لَاحِقٍ الْبَزَّازُ [عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ لَاحِقٍ الْبَزَّازُ]. سَمِعَ يَزِيدَ بْنَ هَارُونَ، وَرَوْحَ بْنَ عُبَادَةَ، وَسَعِيدَ بْنَ مَنْصُورٍ. رَوَى عَنْهُ: ابْنُ صَاعِدٍ، وَأَبُو عُمَرَ الْقَاضِي، وَكَانَ ثِقَةً . تُوُفِّيَ فِي جُمَادَى الْأُولَى مِنْ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ ]. عَلِيُّ بْنُ دَاوُدَ، أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ التَّمِيمِيُّ الْقَنْطَرِيُّ [عَلِيُّ بْنُ دَاوُدَ، أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ التَّمِيمِيُّ الْقَنْطَرِيُّ]. سَمِعَ نُعَيْمَ بْنَ حَمَّادَ، وَغَيْرِهِ. رَوَى عَنْهُ: الْحَرْبِيُّ، وَالْبَغَوِيُّ، وَأَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ الْمُنَادِي. وَكَانَ ثِقَةً . تُوُفِّيَ فِي ذِي الْحِجَّةِ مِنْ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ ]. الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ صَاعِدٍ، أَبُو عِيسَى الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ صَاعِدٍ، أَبُو عِيسَى. كَانَ يَتَعَاطَى النُّجُومَ ، فَرَأَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فِي الْمَنَامِ. قَالَ: فَجِئْتُهُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ادْعُ اللَّهَ بِأَنْ يَهَبَ لِيَ الْعَافِيَةَ. فَأَعْرَضَ عَنِّي فَدُرْتُ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ فَقُلْتُ [ مِثْلَ مَا قُلْتُ ]، فَأَعْرَضَ عَنِّي، فَجِئْتُهُ مُوَاجِهًا لَهُ. فَقُلْتُ [ لَهُ ] مِثْلَ مَا قُلْتُ، فَقَالَ: "لَا أَفْعَلُ". قُلْتُ: وَلِمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ: "لِأَنَّ الْوَاحِدَ مِنْكُمْ يَقُولُ: عَلَّنِي الْمَرِّيخُ وَأَبْرَأَنِي الْمُشْتَرَى". حُمِلَ الْعَلَاءُ إِلَى دَارِ الْمُوَفَّقِ [ فِي مِحَفَّةٍ ] فَحُبِسَ، فَقَالَ عِنْدَ حَمْلِهِ إِلَى ثَلَاثَةَ عَشَرَ يَوْمًا أَخْلُصُ أَخْرُجُ مِنَ الْحَبْسِ وَأَعُودُ إِلَى مَنْزِلِي. فَتُوُفِّيَ فِي الْحَبْسِ بَعْدَ ثَلَاثَةَ عَشَرَ يَوْمًا، وَأُخْرِجَ مَيِّتًا. مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ بْنِ حَبِيبِ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ، أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الْعَبْدِيُّ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ بْنِ حَبِيبِ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ، أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الْعَبْدِيُّ. جَمَعَ الْحَدِيثَ وَالْفِقْهَ وَالْأَدَبَ وَالثَّرْوَةَ، وَرَوَى عَنْ خَلْقٍ كَثِيرٍ مِنْهُمْ: يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ، وَالْوَاقِدِيُّ، وَالْأَصْمَعِيُّ، وَعَفَّانُ، وَالْقَعْنَبِيُّ، [ وَأَبُو عُبَيْدٍ ] وَغَيْرُهُمْ. وَأَخَذَ الْأَدَبَ عَنِ الْأَصْمَعِيِّ، وَابْنِ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ، وَأَبِي عُبَيْدٍ، وَالْحَدِيثَ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، وَيَحْيَى بْنِ مَعِينٍ، وَعَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمَدِينِيِّ. وَالْفِقْهَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ، وَكَانَ يُفْتِي فِي هَذِهِ الْعُلُومِ [ وَكَانَ ثِقَةً ] وَتُوُفِّيَ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ [أَبِي] دَاوُدَ وَاسْمُ أَبِي دَاوُدَ: عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الْمُنَادِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ [أَبِي] دَاوُدَ وَاسْمُ أَبِي دَاوُدَ: عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الْمُنَادِي. سَمِعَ شُجَاعَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ، وَحَفْصَ بْنَ غِيَاثٍ، [ وَيَزِيدَ بْنَ هَارُونَ، وَغَيْرَهُمْ. رَوَى عَنْهُ: الْبُخَارِيُّ، وَأَبُو دَاوُدَ، وَالْبَغَوِيُّ، وَغَيْرُهُمْ ] وَكَانَ صَدُوقًا . وعن مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ قَالَ: قُرِئَ عَلَى ابْنِ الْمُنَادِي وَأَنَا أَسْمَعُ قَالَ: تُوُفِّيَ جِدِّي أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُنَادِي لَيْلَةَ الثُّلَاثَاءِ فِي السَّحَرِ، وَدُفِنَ يَوْمَ الثُّلَاثَاءِ لِثَلَاثٍ بَقِينَ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ سَنَةَ اثْنَتَيْنِ وَسَبْعِينَ وَمِائَتَيْنِ، وَصَامَ فِيمَا قَالَ لَنَا: اثْنَيْنِ وَتِسْعِينَ رَمِضَانًا وَاثْنَيْ عَشَرَ يَوْمًا مِنَ الشَّهْرِ الَّذِي مَاتَ فِيهِ، وَلَهُ حِينَئِذٍ مِائَةُ سَنَةٍ وَسَنَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ، وَأَرْبَعَةُ أَشْهُرٍ، وَاثْنَا عَشَرَ يَوْمًا مِنَ الشَّهْرِ الَّذِي مَاتَ فِيهِ لِأَنَّهُ وُلِدَ فِيمَا قَالَ لَنَا: لِلنِّصْفِ مِنْ جُمَادَى الْأُولَى سَنَةَ إِحْدَى وَسَبْعِينَ وَمِائَةً. قَالَ: وَكَانَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ أَكْبَرَ مِنِّي بِسَبْعِ سِنِينَ، وَكَانَ يَحْيَى بْنُ مَعِينٍ أَكْبَرَ مِنِّي بِسَبْعِ سِنِينَ. يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ سِوَاكِ بْنِ يُوسُفَ الْخُتُلِّيُّ يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ سِوَاكِ بْنِ يُوسُفَ الْخُتُلِّيُّ. سَكَنَ بَغْدَادَ، وَصَحِبَ بِشْرَ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ، وَلِمَا احْتُضِرَ قَالَ لَهُ ابْنُهُ مُحَمَّدٌ: يَا أَبَتِ ! إِذَا قَضَيْتَ نَحْبَكَ أَدْفِنُكَ عِنْدَ أَخِيكَ بِشْرٍ ؟ فَقَالَ: إِذَا مُتُّ فَادْفِنِي عِنْدَ أَبِي وَأُمِّي، فَإِنِّي أُحِبُّ أَنْ يَجْمَعَنَا اللَّهُ فِي الْقِيَامَةِ فَسَيَجْمَعُنَا. قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا أَبَتِ فَأُكَفِّرُ عَنْكَ بِشَيْءٍ. قَالَ: لَا، فَإِنِّي مَا حَلَفْتُ بِاللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَلَى حَقٍّ وَلَا عَلَى بَاطِلٍ. تُوُفِّيَ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ وَقِيلَ فِي سَنَةِ ثَمَانٍ وَسَبْعِينَ. أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُطَارِدٍ الْعُطَارِدِيُّ التَّمِيمِيُّ وَمِمَّنْ تُوُفِّيَ فِيهَا مِنَ الْأَعْيَانِ : وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُطَارِدٍ الْعُطَارِدِيُّ التَّمِيمِيُّ، رَاوِي السِّيرَةِ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، وَغَيْرِ ذَلِكَ. وَأَبُو عُتْبَةَ الْحِجَازِيُّ وَأَبُو عُتْبَةَ الْحِجَازِيُّ. وَسُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ سَيْفٍ. شُعَيْبُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ شُعَيْبُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ، يَرْوِي عَنْ أَبِي عَاصِمٍ النَّبِيلِ. وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ الْفَرَّاءُ. وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُنَادِي.أَبُو مَعْشَرٍ الْمُنَجِّمُ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَوْفٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ. وَأَبُو مَعْشَرٍ الْمُنَجِّمُ . وَاسْمُهُ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْبَلْخِيُّ، أُسْتَاذُ عَصْرِهِ فِي صِنَاعَةِ التَّنْجِيمِ، وَلَهُ فِيهِ التَّصَانِيفُ الْمَشْهُورَةُ، كَ " الْمَدْخَلِ "، وَ " الزِّيجِ "، وَ " الْأُلُوفِ " وَغَيْرِهَا، وَتَكَلَّمَ عَلَى مَا يَتَعَلَّقُ بِالتَّسْيِيرِ وَكَذَلِكَ بِالْأَحْكَامِ. قَالَ الْقَاضِي ابْنُ خَلِّكَانَ وَلَهُ إِصَابَاتٌ عَجِيبَةٌ. ثُمَّ حَكَى أَنَّ بَعْضَ الْمُلُوكِ تَطَلَّبَ رَجُلًا، فَذَهَبَ ذَلِكَ الرَّجُلُ فَاخْتَفَى وَخَافَ مِنْ أَبِي مَعْشَرٍ الْمُنَجِّمِ أَنْ يَدُلَّ عَلَيْهِ الْمَلِكَ بِصَنْعَتِهِ، فَعَمَدَ إِلَى طَسْتٍ فَمَلَأَهُ دِمَاءً، وَوَضَعَ أَسْفَلَهُ هَاوَنًا وَجَلَسَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ الْهَاوَنِ، فَاسْتَدْعَى الْمَلِكُ أَبَا مَعْشَرٍ، فَضَرَبَ رَمْلَهُ وَحَرَّرَ أَمْرَهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: هَذَا عَجِيبٌ ! أَجِدُ هَذَا الرَّجُلَ جَالِسًا عَلَى جَبَلٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فِي وَسَطِ بَحْرٍ مِنْ دَمٍ، وَلَكِنْ لَيْسَ هَذَا فِي الدُّنْيَا. ثُمَّ أَعَادَ الضَّرْبَ فَوَجَدَهُ كَذَلِكَ، فَتَعَجَّبَ الْمَلِكُ أَيْضًا، وَنَادَى فِي الْبَلَدِ بِأَمَانِ الْمَذْكُورِ، فَلَمَّا مَثُلَ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ الْمَلِكِ سَأَلَهُ أَيْنَ اخْتَفَى ؟ فَأَخْبَرَهُ بِأَمْرِهِ، فَتَعَجَّبَ النَّاسُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ. قُلْتُ: وَالظَّاهِرُ أَنِ الَّذِي يُنْسَبُ إِلَى جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّادِقِ مِنْ عِلْمِ الرَّجَزِ، وَالطُّرَفِ، وَاخْتِلَاجِ الْأَعْضَاءِ وَنَحْوِ ذَلِكَ، إِنَّمَا هُوَ مَنْسُوبٌ إِلَى جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ هَذَا، وَلَيْسَ بِالصَّادِقِ. وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ. أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَنْمَاطِيُّ، الْمَعْرُوفُ بِكَيْجَلَةَ [ الْوَفَيَاتُ ] وَفِيهَا مَاتَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَنْمَاطِيُّ، الْمَعْرُوفُ بِكَيْجَلَةَ، وَهُوَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ يَحْيَى بْنِ مَعِينٍ، وَهُوَ لَقَبُهُ.

✧ Mention of those among the notables who died in the year two hundred and seventy-two Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. al-Ḥajjāj b. Rashīdayn al-Miṣrī, known by the kunyah Abū Jaʿfar. He was one of the ḥadīth memorizers and people of the craft. He died on Wednesday night and was buried on the day of ʿĀshūrāʾ of this year. Ibrāhīm b. Sulaymān b. Dāwūd al-Asadī [Ibrāhīm b. Sulaymān b. Dāwūd al-Asadī, Asad Khuzaymah, known by the kunyah Abū Isḥāq, and known as Ibn Abī Dāwūd al-Burullusī]. Because he kept to al-Burullus, one of the coastal districts of Egypt. He was born in Tyre, and his father Abū Dāwūd was Kūfan. He was trustworthy, one of the ḥadīth memorizers. He died in Egypt in Shaʿbān of this year]. Ibrāhīm b. al-Walīd b. Ayyūb, Abū Isḥāq al-Jashshās [Ibrāhīm b. al-Walīd b. Ayyūb, Abū Isḥāq al-Jashshās]. He heard Abū Nuʿaym, al-Qaʿnabī, ʿAffān, and others, and he was trustworthy. He died in Muḥarram of this year]. Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad b. ʿĀmir, Abū al-Faḍl al-Bazzāz [Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad b. ʿĀmir, Abū al-Faḍl al-Bazzāz]. From the people of Surra man raʾā. He related from Abū Nuʿaym, Qabīṣah, and ʿAffān. Ibn Ṣāʿid, Ibn Abī Dāwūd, and others related from him. He was one of the accredited witnesses. Ibn Abī Ḥātim said: I heard from him with my father, and he is truthful. Isḥāq al-ʿAṭṭār, who said: I heard ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Hārūn say: We were travelling by sea to Ifrīqiyah, and the wind died down on us, so we anchored at a place called al-Barṭūn. With us was a Slavic boy called Ayman, and he had a fishhook with which he fished. He said: He caught a fish of about a span or less. He said: On the fin of its right ear was written: "There is no god but God," and on its head, and on the fin of its left ear was written: "Muḥammad is the Messenger of God ﷺ." He said: It was clearer than an engraving on stone. The fish was white and the writing black, as if written [with ink]. He said: We threw it back into the sea, and he prevented the people from fishing in that place [until we had gone far into it]. Abū ʿAlī al-ʿAṭṭār died in Ṣafar of this year. Sulaymān b. Wahb [Sulaymān b. Wahb. He died in prison in Ṣafar of this year. Al-ʿAbshamī mourned him, saying: It is as if the earth, when it was said that Sulaymān b. Wahb had perished, was shaking beneath me Abū Ayyūb, you were a succour to us And a pillar when a harsh time assailed us If his death had accepted a substitute We would have given death what it wanted Because the registers of excellence have been suspended And have become such that no number can be counted for them He has left enduring virtues Which the firm mountains will perish but they will not perish] ʿAbd Allāh b. Muḥammad b. Ismāʿīl b. Lāḥiq al-Bazzāz [ʿAbd Allāh b. Muḥammad b. Ismāʿīl b. Lāḥiq al-Bazzāz]. He heard Yazīd b. Hārūn, Rawḥ b. ʿUbādah, and Saʿīd b. Manṣūr. Ibn Ṣāʿid and Abū ʿUmar al-Qāḍī related from him. He was trustworthy. He died in Jumādā al-Ūlā of this year]. ʿAlī b. Dāwūd, Abū al-Ḥusayn al-Tamīmī al-Qanṭarī [ʿAlī b. Dāwūd, Abū al-Ḥusayn al-Tamīmī al-Qanṭarī]. He heard Nuʿaym b. Ḥammād and others. Al-Ḥarbī, al-Baghawī, and Abū al-Ḥusayn b. al-Munādī related from him. He was trustworthy. He died in Dhū al-Ḥijjah of this year]. Al-ʿAlāʾ b. Ṣāʿid, Abū ʿĪsā, al-ʿAlāʾ b. Ṣāʿid, Abū ʿĪsā. He used to practice astrology. He saw the Prophet ﷺ in a dream. He said: I came to him on his right and said: O Messenger of God, pray to God to grant me well-being. He turned away from me. Then I went around to his left and said [the same thing I had said], and he turned away from me. Then I came facing him and said [to him] the same thing I had said. He said: "I will not do so." I said: Why, O Messenger of God? He said: "Because one of you says: Mars made me ill and Jupiter cured me." Al-ʿAlāʾ was carried to the palace of al-Muwaffaq [in a litter] and imprisoned. When he was carried, he said: In thirteen days I will be released; I will come out of prison and return to my house. He died in prison after thirteen days and was brought out dead. Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Wahhāb b. Ḥabīb b. Mihrān, Abū Aḥmad al-ʿAbdī, Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Wahhāb b. Ḥabīb b. Mihrān, Abū Aḥmad al-ʿAbdī. He combined ḥadīth, fiqh, literature, and wealth. He related from many people, among them: Yaḥyā b. Yaḥyā, Ismāʿīl b. Abī Uways, al-Wāqidī, al-Aṣmaʿī, ʿAffān, al-Qaʿnabī, [Abū ʿUbayd], and others. He took literature from al-Aṣmaʿī, Ibn al-Aʿrābī, and Abū ʿUbayd; ḥadīth from Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal, Yaḥyā b. Maʿīn, and ʿAlī b. al-Madīnī; and fiqh from his father. He used to give legal opinions in these sciences, [and he was trustworthy]. He died in this year. Muḥammad b. [Abī] Dāwūd—Abū Dāwūd's name being ʿUbayd Allāh b. Yazīd—Abū Jaʿfar al-Munādī, Muḥammad b. [Abī] Dāwūd, Abū Dāwūd's name being ʿUbayd Allāh b. Yazīd, Abū Jaʿfar al-Munādī. He heard Shujāʿ b. al-Walīd, Ḥafṣ b. Ghiyāth, [Yazīd b. Hārūn, and others. Al-Bukhārī, Abū Dāwūd, al-Baghawī, and others related from him]. He was truthful. From Muḥammad b. al-ʿAbbās, who said: It was read to Ibn al-Munādī while I was listening. He said: My grandfather Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad b. ʿUbayd Allāh al-Munādī died on Tuesday night before dawn, and was buried on Tuesday, three nights remaining in the month of Ramaḍān, in the year two hundred and seventy-two. According to what he told us, he fasted ninety-two Ramaḍāns and twelve days of the month in which he died. At that time he was one hundred and one years, four months, and twelve days of the month in which he died, because, according to what he told us, he was born in the middle of Jumādā al-Ūlā in the year one hundred and seventy-one. He said: Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal was seven years older than I, and Yaḥyā b. Maʿīn was seven years older than I. Yaʿqūb b. Siwāk b. Yūsuf al-Khutullī, Yaʿqūb b. Siwāk b. Yūsuf al-Khutullī. He lived in Baghdād and accompanied Bishr b. al-Ḥārith. When he was dying, his son Muḥammad said to him: Father, when you have passed away, shall I bury you next to your brother Bishr? He said: When I die, bury me next to my father and mother, for I would love God to gather us together on the Day of Resurrection, and He will gather us. He said: I said: Father, shall I make any expiation on your behalf? He said: No, for I have never sworn by God, mighty and glorious, either truthfully or falsely. He died in this year; some said in the year two hundred and seventy-eight. Aḥmad b. ʿAbd al-Jabbār b. Muḥammad b. ʿUṭārid al-ʿUṭāridī al-Tamīmī, among those notables who died in it: Aḥmad b. ʿAbd al-Jabbār b. Muḥammad b. ʿUṭārid al-ʿUṭāridī al-Tamīmī, the transmitter of the Sīrah from Yūnus b. Bukayr, from Muḥammad b. Isḥāq b. Yasār, and others. Abū ʿUtbah al-Ḥijāzī, Abū ʿUtbah al-Ḥijāzī. Sulaymān b. Sayf. Shuʿayb b. Bakkār, Shuʿayb b. Bakkār, who related from Abū ʿĀṣim al-Nabīl. Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Farrāʾ. Muḥammad b. ʿUbayd Allāh al-Munādī. Abū Maʿshar al-Munajjim and Muḥammad b. ʿAwf al-Ḥimṣī. Abū Maʿshar al-Munajjim. His name was Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad al-Balkhī, the master of his age in the art of astrology. He has well-known works in it, such as al-Madkhal, al-Zīj, al-Ulūf, and others. He spoke on matters relating to progression and likewise on judicial astrology. Al-Qāḍī Ibn Khallikān said: He had astonishing accurate predictions. Then he related that one of the kings sought a certain man, and that man went into hiding, fearing that Abū Maʿshar al-Munajjim would point him out to the king by his art. So he took a basin, filled it with blood, placed a mortar at its bottom, and sat on that mortar. The king summoned Abū Maʿshar, who cast his sand and worked out his matter. Then he said: This is astonishing! I find this man sitting on a mountain of gold in the middle of a sea of blood, but this is not in this world. Then he repeated the casting and found it the same. The king marvelled again and proclaimed in the city a guarantee of safety for the mentioned man. When he appeared before the king, he asked him where he had hidden. He told him his story, and people marvelled at that. I say: It is apparent that what is attributed to Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad al-Ṣādiq of the science of al-rajaz, al-ṭuraf, twitching of limbs, and the like, is in fact attributed to this Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad, not to al-Ṣādiq. And God knows best. Abū Bakr Muḥammad b. Ṣāliḥ b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Anmāṭī, known as Kayjalah [Deaths]. In this year died Abū Bakr Muḥammad b. Ṣāliḥ b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Anmāṭī, known as Kayjalah, one of the companions of Yaḥyā b. Maʿīn, and that is his nickname.
