أَسْرِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كَاوِسَ فِي سَنَةُ أَرْبَعٍ وَسِتِّينَ وَمِائَتَيْنِ أَسَرَتِ الرُّومُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ رَشِيدِ بْنِ كَاوِسَ. وَكَانَ سَبَبُ ذَلِكَ أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ بَلَدَ الرُّومِ فِي أَرْبَعَةِ آلَافٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الثُّغُورِ الشَّامِيَّةِ، فَغَنِمَ وَقَتَلَ، فَلَمَّا رَحَلَ عَنِ الْبَدَنْدُونَ خَرَجَ عَلَيْهِ بِطْرِيقُ سَلُوقِيَّةَ، وَبِطْرِيقُ قُرَّةِ كَوْكَبٍ، وَخَرْشَنَةَ، فَأَحْدَقُوا بِالْمُسْلِمِينَ، فَنَزَلَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ وَعَرْقَبُوا دَوَابَّهُمْ وَقَاتَلُوا، فَقُتِلُوا إِلَّا خَمْسَمِائَةٍ، فَإِنَّهُمْ حَمَلُوا حَمْلَةَ رَجُلٍ وَاحِدٍ، وَنَجَوْا عَلَى دَوَابِّهِمْ، وَقَتَلَ الرُّومُ مَنْ قَتَلُوا، وَأَسَرُوا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ رَشِيدٍ بَعْدَ ضَرَبَاتٍ أَصَابَتْهُ، وَحُمِلَ إِلَى مَلِكِ الرُّومِ.
Translation
✧ The capture of ʿAbd Allāh b. Kāwas In the year two hundred and sixty-four, the Byzantines captured ʿAbd Allāh b. Rashīd b. Kāwas. The reason for that was that he entered Byzantine territory with four thousand men from the Syrian frontier districts, and he took booty and killed. When he departed from al-Badandūn, the patrician of Seleucia, the patrician of Qurrat Kawkab, and Kharshana came out against him, and they surrounded the Muslims. The Muslims dismounted and hamstrung their mounts and fought. They were killed except for five hundred, for they charged as one man and escaped on their mounts. The Byzantines killed those they killed, and they captured ʿAbd Allāh b. Rashīd after blows had struck him, and he was carried to the Byzantine emperor.
