مُلْكِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ الْعَلَوِيِّ جُرْجَانَ وَفِي هَذِهِ سنة سبع وخمسين ومائتين قَصَدَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ الْعَلَوِيُّ صَاحِبُ طَبَرِسْتَانَ جُرْجَانَ وَاسْتَوْلَى عَلَيْهَا، وَكَانَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ طَاهِرٍ أَمِيرَ خُرَاسَانَ، لَمَّا بَلَغَهُ مِنْ عَزْمِ الْحَسَنِ عَلَى قَصْدِ جُرْجَانَ قَدْ جَهَّزَ الْعَسَاكِرَ فَأَنْفَقَ عَلَيْهَا أَمْوَالًا كَثِيرَةً، وَسَيَّرَهَا إِلَى جُرْجَانَ لِحِفْظِهَا، فَلَمَّا قَصَدَهَا الْحَسَنُ لَمْ يَقُومُوا لَهُ، وَظَفِرَ بِهِمْ وَمَلَكَ الْبَلَدَ، وَقَتَلَ كَثِيرًا مِنَ الْعَسَاكِرِ، وَغَنِمَ هُوَ وَأَصْحَابُهُ مَا عِنْدَهُمْ. وَضَعُفَ حِينَئِذٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ طَاهِرٍ، وَانْتَقَضَ عَلَيْهِ كَثِيرٌ مِنَ الْأَعْمَالِ الَّتِي كَانَ يَجِيءُ خَرَاجُهَا إِلَيْهِ، فَلَمْ يَبْقَ فِي يَدِهِ إِلَّا بَعْضُ خُرَاسَانَ، وَأَكْثَرُ ذَلِكَ مَفْتُونٌ مُنْتَقَضٌ بِالْمُتَغَلِّبِينَ فِي نَوَاحِيهَا، وَالشُّرَاةِ الَّذِينَ يَعِيثُونَ فِي عَمَلِهِ، فَلَا يُمْكِنُهُ دَفْعُهُمْ، فَكَانَ ذَلِكَ سَبَبَ تَغَلُّبِ يَعْقُوبَ الصَّفَّارِ عَلَى خُرَاسَانَ.
Translation
✧ The possession of Jurjān by al-Ḥasan b. Zayd al-ʿAlawī In this year, 257 AH, al-Ḥasan b. Zayd al-ʿAlawī, the ruler of Ṭabaristān, marched upon Jurjān and took it over. Muḥammad b. Ṭāhir was the governor of Khurāsān. When it reached him that al-Ḥasan was resolved to march upon Jurjān, he had already equipped armies, spending on them large sums of money, and dispatched them to Jurjān to defend it. But when al-Ḥasan marched upon it, they did not make a stand against him. He overcame them and took possession of the town. He killed many of the troops, and he and his companions seized as booty what they had. At that time Muḥammad b. Ṭāhir was weakened, and many of the districts whose revenues came to him rebelled against him. Nothing remained in his hands but part of Khurāsān, most of which was in turmoil, revolting against him with the usurpers in its regions and the Kharijites who were spreading corruption in his province. He could not repel them. That was the cause of Yaʿqūb al-Ṣaffār's takeover of Khurāsān.
