انْهِزَامِ جَيْشِ الزَّنْجِ بِالْأَهْوَازِ وَفِيهَا أَرْسَلَ صَاحِبُ الزَّنْجِ جَيْشًا مَعَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبَانٍ لِقَطْعِ قَنْطَرَةِ أَرْبَكَ، فَلَقِيَهُمْ إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سِيمَا مُنْصَرِفًا مِنْ فَارِسَ، فَأَوْقَعَ بِجَيْشِ الْعَلَوِيِّ فَهَزَمَهُمْ، وَقَتَلَ مِنْهُمْ، وَجُرِحَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبَانٍ. ثُمَّ إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ سَارَ قَاصِدًا نَهْرَ جَيٍّ، فَأَمَرَ كَاتِبَهُ شَاهِينَ بْنَ بِسْطَامٍ بِالْمَسِيرِ عَلَى طَرِيقٍ آخَرَ لِيُوَافِيَهُ بِنَهْرِ جَيٍّ، بَعْدَ الْوَقْعَةِ مَعَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبَانٍ ; وَكَانَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبَانٍ قَدْ سَارَ مِنَ الْوَقْعَةِ فَنَزَلَ بِالْخَيْزُرَانِيَّةِ، فَأَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ فَأَخْبَرَهُ بِإِقْبَالِ شَاهِينَ إِلَيْهِ، فَسَارَ نَحْوَهُ، فَالْتَقَيَا وَقْتَ الْعَصْرِ بِمَوْضِعٍ بَيْنَ جَيٍّ وَنَهْرِ مُوسَى، وَاقْتَتَلُوا قِتَالًا شَدِيدًا، ثُمَّ صَدَمَهُمُ الزَّنْجُ صَدْمَةً صَادِقَةً فَهَزَمُوهُمْ، وَقَتَلُوا شَاهِينَ وَابْنَ عَمٍّ لَهُ، وَقُتِلَ مَعَهُ خَلْقٌ كَثِيرٌ. فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ الزَّنْجُ مِنْهُمْ أَتَاهُمُ الْخَبَرُ بِقُرْبِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سِيمَا مِنْهُمْ، فَسَارَ عَلَيٌّ نَحْوَهُ، فَوَافَاهُ وَقْتَ الْعَشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ، فَأَوْقَعَ بِإِبْرَاهِيمَ دَفْعَةً أُخْرَى شَدِيدَةً قَتَلَ فِيهَا جَمْعًا كَثِيرًا. قَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبَانٍ: وَكَانَ أَصْحَابِي قَدْ تَفَرَّقُوا بَعْدَ الْوَقْعَةِ مَعَ شَاهِينَ، وَلَمْ يَشْهَدْ مَعِي حَرْبَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ غَيْرُ خَمْسِينَ رَجُلًا، وَانْصَرَفَ عَلِيٌّ إِلَى جَيٍّ.
Translation
✧ The defeat of the Zanj army at al-Ahwāz In this year, the leader of the Zanj sent an army with ʿAlī b. Abān to cut off the bridge of Arbak. Ibrāhīm b. Sīmā, returning from Fārs, met them and fell upon the army of the ʿAlawī, routing them and killing some of them; ʿAlī b. Abān was wounded. Then Ibrāhīm marched toward Nahr Jayy, ordering his secretary Shāhīn b. Bisṭām to travel by another route to meet him at Nahr Jayy after the battle with ʿAlī b. Abān. ʿAlī b. Abān had marched from the battle and halted at al-Khayzurāniyya. A man came to him and informed him of Shāhīn's approach, so he marched toward him. They met at the time of the afternoon prayer at a place between Jayy and Nahr Mūsā, and they fought a fierce battle. Then the Zanj struck them with a true charge and routed them, killing Shāhīn and a cousin of his, along with a great many others. When the Zanj had finished with them, news reached them that Ibrāhīm b. Sīmā was near. ʿAlī marched toward him and met him at the time of the last evening prayer, inflicting another severe blow on Ibrāhīm, in which a great many were killed. ʿAlī b. Abān said: My companions had dispersed after the battle with Shāhīn, and no more than fifty men witnessed with me the war with Ibrāhīm. ʿAlī then returned to Jayy.
