قَتْلِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ إِسْرَائِيلَ وَأَبِي نُوحٍ وَفِي يَوْمِ الْخَمِيسِ لِثَلَاثٍ بَقِينَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ أَمَرَ صَالِحُ بْنُ وَصِيفٍ بِضَرْبِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ إِسْرَائِيلَ الَّذِي كَانَ وَزِيرًا، وَأَبِي نُوحٍ عِيسَى بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الَّذِي كَانَ نَصْرَانِيًّا فَأَظْهَرَ الْإِسْلَامَ، وَكَانَ كَاتِبَ قَبِيحَةَ فَضُرِبَ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا خَمْسَمِائَةِ سَوْطٍ بَعْدَ اسْتِخْلَاصِ أَمْوَالِهِمَا، ثُمَّ طِيفَ بِهِمَا عَلَى بَغْلَيْنِ مُنَكَّسَيْنِ فَمَاتَا، وَهُمَا كَذَلِكَ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ ذَلِكَ عَنْ رِضَا الْمُهْتَدِي بِاللَّهِ، وَلَكِنْ لَا يَقْدِرُ عَلَى الْإِنْكَارِ عَلَى صَالِحِ بْنِ وَصِيفٍ فِي بَادِئِ الْأَمْرِ. وَلَمَّا بَلَغَ الْمُهْتَدِيَ ضَرْبُهُمَا قَالَ: أَمَا عُقُوبَةٌ إِلَّا السَّوْطُ وَالْقَتْلُ، أَمَا يَكْفِي الْحَبْسُ ؟ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ ! يُكَرِّرُ ذَلِكَ مِرَارًا.
Translation
✧ The Killing of Aḥmad b. Isrāʾīl and Abū Nūḥ On Thursday, three nights remaining in Ramaḍān, Ṣāliḥ b. Waṣīf ordered the flogging of Aḥmad b. Isrāʾīl, who had been vizier, and Abū Nūḥ ʿĪsā b. Ibrāhīm, who had been a Christian and then professed Islam; he was the secretary of Qabīḥah. Each of them was flogged with five hundred lashes after the confiscation of their wealth. Then they were paraded on two mules, hanging upside down, and they died in that state. This was not with the approval of al-Muhtadī billāh, but he was unable to object to Ṣāliḥ b. Waṣīf at the outset of the matter. When the flogging of the two reached al-Muhtadī, he said: "Is there no punishment but the lash and killing? Is imprisonment not enough? Verily we belong to God and to Him we return!" He repeated that several times.
