The Year 214 AH

ذِكْرُ مَنْ تُوُفِّيَ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ مِنَ الْأَكَابِرِ 1208 - إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ أَبُو يَعْقُوبَ الشَّاعِرُ الْمَعْرُوفُ بِالْخُرَيْمِيِّ  . أَصْلُهُ مِنْ خُرَاسَانَ مِنْ أَبْنَاءِ السُّغْدِ، وَاتَّصَلَ بِخُرَيْمِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْمُرِّيِّ فَنُسِبَ إِلَيْهِ، وَقِيلَ: بَلْ كَانَ اتِّصَالُهُ بِعُثْمَانَ بْنِ خُرَيْمٍ وَكَانَ عُثْمَانُ قَائِدًا جَلِيلًا وَسَيِّدًا شَرِيفًا فَنُسِبَ إِلَيْهِ. وَأَبُو خُرَيْمٍ الْمَوْصُوفُ بِالنَّاعِمِ، وَأَمَّا يَعْقُوبُ فَشَاعِرٌ مُحْسِنٌ وَكَانَ يَتَدَيَّنُ. قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ السِّجِسْتَانِيُّ: هُوَ أَشْعَرُ الْمُوَلَّدِينَ. رَوَى عَنْهُ الْحَافِظُ. قَالَ الصُّولِيُّ: أَنْشَدَنِي عَوْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ لِأَبِي يَعْقُوبَ الْخُرَيْمِيِّ: بَاحَتْ بِبَلْوَاهُ جَفَوْنُهُ وَجَرَتْ بِأَدْمُعِهِ عُيُونُهُ     لَمَّا رَأَى شَيْئًا عَلَاهُ وَلَمْ يَحِنْ فِي الْغَدِ حِينُهُ     فَعَلَا عَلَى فَقْدِ الشَّبَابِ وَفَقْدِ مَنْ يَهْوَى أَنِينُهُ     مَا كَانَ أَنْجَحَ سَعْيُهُ وَشَبَابُهُ فِيهِ مُعِينُهُ     وَاللَّهْوُ يَحْسُنُ بِالْفَتَى مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ شَيْبٌ يَشِينُهُ 1209 - الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بَهْرَامَ، أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ التَّمِيمِيُّ، الْمُؤَدِّبُ، مَرْوَرُّوذِيُّ الْأَصْلِ. كَانَ بِبَغْدَادَ، وَحَدَّثَ عَنْ جَمَاعَةٍ، وَرَوَى عَنْهُ: أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ، وَعَبَّاسٌ الدُّورِيُّ، وَالْحَرْبِيُّ وَكَانَ ثِقَةً  . تُوُفِّيَ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. وَقِيلَ: فِي سَنَةِ ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ. 1210 - مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، أَبُو مُحْرِزٍ الْكِنَانِيُّ  . [كَانَ] فَاضِلًا، وَلِيَ قَضَاءَ إِفْرِيقِيَّةَ فَامْتَنَعَ، فَأَمَرَ الْأَمِيرُ أَنْ يُحْمَلَ بِضَيْعَتِهِ حَتَّى يُقْعَدَ فِي الْجَامِعِ لِيَنْظُرَ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ، فَلَمَّا قَعَدَ، نَظَرَ بَيْنَ الْخُصُومِ. سَمِعَ مَالِكَ [بْنَ أَنَسٍ]. وَتُوُفِّيَ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. 1211 - مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ الطُّوسِيُّ. قَتْلَهُ بَابِكُ يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ لِخَمْسٍ بَقِينَ مِنْ رَبِيعِ الْأَوَّلِ، وَقَتَلَ جَمَاعَةً كَانُوا مَعَهُ فِي عَسْكَرِهِ.

Translation

✧ Mention of the notables who died in this year 1208 - Isḥāq b. Ḥassān, Abū Yaʿqūb, the poet known as al-Khurayymī. His origin was from Khurāsān, of the sons of al-Sughd, and he attached himself to Khurayyim b. ʿĀmir al-Murrī, so he was named after him. It was said: rather his attachment was to ʿUthmān b. Khurayyim, and ʿUthmān was a distinguished commander and a noble sayyid, so he was named after him. And Abū Khurayyim was described as al-Nāʿim. As for Yaʿqūb, he was an accomplished poet, and he was devout. Abū Ḥātim al-Sijistānī said: He is the best poet of the muwalladūn. Al-Ḥāfiẓ related from him. Al-Ṣūlī said: ʿAwn b. Muḥammad recited to me, for Abū Yaʿqūb al-Khurayymī: His eyelids revealed his affliction, and his eyes flowed with tears When he saw something that overcame him And its time had not yet come on the morrow So his moaning rose over the loss of youth And the loss of one he loves How successful was his striving While his youth assisted him in it And diversion is becoming to a young man As long as no gray hair disgraces him 1209 - Al-Ḥusayn b. Muḥammad b. Bahrām, Abū Muḥammad al-Tamīmī, the tutor, of Marwarrūdh origin. He was in Baghdād, and he related traditions from a group. Related from him: Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal, ʿAbbās al-Dūrī, and al-Ḥarbī. He was trustworthy. He died in this year. It was also said: in the year two hundred thirteen. 1210 - Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Qays, Abū Muḥriz al-Kinānī. He was virtuous. He was appointed judge of Ifrīqiyya, but he refused, so the amīr ordered that he be carried to his estate until he was seated in the congregational mosque to judge between the people. When he sat down, he judged between the litigants. He heard [traditions] from Mālik [b. Anas]. He died in this year. 1211 - Muḥammad b. Ḥumayd al-Ṭūsī. Bābak killed him on Saturday, with five nights remaining of Rabīʿ al-Awwal, and he killed a group who were with him in his army.
