وَفِيهَا سَارَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأُمَوِيُّ صَاحِبُ الْأَنْدَلُسِ إِلَى مَدِينَةِ بَاجَةَ، وَكَانَتْ عَاصِيَةً عَلَيْهِ مِنْ حِينِ فِتْنَةِ مَنْصُورٍ إِلَى الْآنِ، فَمَلَكَهَا عَنْوَةً. وَفِيهَا خَالَفَ هَاشِمٌ الضَّرَّابُ بِمَدِينَةِ طُلَيْطِلَةَ، مِنَ الْأَنْدَلُسِ، عَلَى صَاحِبِهَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، وَكَانَ هَاشِمٌ مِمَّنْ خَرَجَ مِنْ طُلَيْطِلَةَ [ لَمَّا ] أَوْقَعَ الْحَكَمُ بِأَهْلِهَا، فَسَارَ إِلَى قُرْطُبَةَ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ الْآنَ سَارَ إِلَى طُلَيْطِلَةَ، فَاجْتَمَعَ إِلَيْهِ أَهْلُ الشَّرِّ وَغَيْرُهُمْ، فَسَارَ بِهِمْ إِلَى وَادِي نَحْوِيَيْهِ، وَأَغَارَ عَلَى الْبَرْبَرِ وَغَيْرِهِمْ، فَطَارَ اسْمُهُ، وَاشْتَدَّتْ شَوْكَتُهُ، وَاجْتَمَعَ لَهُ جَمْعٌ عَظِيمٌ، وَأَوْقَعَ بِأَهْلِ شَنْتَ بَرِيَّةَ. وَكَانَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْبَرْبَرِ وَقَعَاتٌ كَثِيرَةٌ، فَسَيَّرَ إِلَيْهِ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ هَذِهِ السَّنَةَ جَيْشًا، فَقَاتَلُوهُ، فَلَمْ تَسْتَظْهِرْ إِحْدَى الطَّائِفَتَيْنِ عَلَى الْأُخْرَى، وَبَقِيَ هِشَامٌ كَذَلِكَ، وَغَلَبَ عَلَى عِدَّةِ مَوَاضِعَ، وَجَاوَزَ بِرْكَةَ الْعَجُوزِ، وَأَخَذَتْ غَارَةٌ خَيْلَهُ، فَسَيَّرَ إِلَيْهِ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ جَيْشًا كَثِيفًا سَنَةَ سِتَّ عَشْرَةَ وَمِائَتَيْنِ، فَلَقِيَهُمْ هَاشِمٌ بِالْقُرْبِ مِنْ حِصْنِ سُمُسْطَا بِمُجَاوَرَةِ رُورِيَةَ، فَاشْتَدَّتِ الْحَرْبُ بَيْنَهُمْ، وَدَامَتْ عِدَّةَ أَيَّامٍ، ثُمَّ انْهَزَمَ هَاشِمٌ، وَقُتِلَ هُوَ وَكَثِيرٌ مِمَّنْ مَعَهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الطَّمَعِ وَالشَّرِّ وَطَالِبِي الْفِتَنِ، وَكَفَى اللَّهُ النَّاسَ شَرَّهُمْ ).
Translation
✧ In this year, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Umawī, the ruler of al-Andalus, marched to the city of Bājah, which had been in rebellion against him from the time of Manṣūr's sedition until now, and he took it by force. In this year, Hāshim al-Ḍarrāb rebelled in the city of Ṭulayṭilah, in al-Andalus, against its ruler ʿAbd al-Raḥmān. Hāshim was among those who had left Ṭulayṭilah [when] al-Ḥakam had struck its people hard, so he went to Qurṭubah. Now, at this time, he went to Ṭulayṭilah, and the people of mischief and others gathered around him. He marched with them to the Wādī Naḥwiyayh, and raided the Berbers and others. His name spread, his power grew strong, and a great host gathered around him, and he struck the people of Shantabariyyah. Many battles took place between him and the Berbers. This year, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān sent an army against him, and they fought him, but neither side gained the upper hand over the other. Hishām remained as he was, and he gained control over several places, and he crossed Birkat al-ʿAjūz, and his cavalry took a raiding party. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān sent a dense army against him in the year two hundred and sixteen. Hāshim met them near the fortress of Sumusṭā, adjacent to Rūriyah. The battle intensified between them and lasted for several days. Then Hāshim was defeated, and he and many of those with him—people of greed, mischief, and seekers of sedition—were killed, and God spared the people their evil.
