The Year 213 AH
ثُمَّ دَخَلَتْ سَنَةُ ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ وَمِائَتَيْنِ وَفِيهَا وَلَّى الْمَأْمُونُ ابْنَهُ الْعَبَّاسَ الْجَزِيرَةَ، وَالثُّغُورَ، وَالْعَوَاصِمَ، وَوَلَّى أَخَاهُ أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ الْمُعْتَصِمَ الشَّامَ وَمِصْرَ ، وَأَمَرَ لِكُلِّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا وَلِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ طَاهِرٍ بِخَمْسِمِائَةِ أَلْفِ دِرْهَمٍ، فَقِيلَ: لَمْ يُفَرِّقْ فِي يَوْمٍ مِنَ الْمَالِ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ.
Translation
✧ Then the year 213 AH began. In it, al-Maʾmūn appointed his son al-ʿAbbās over al-Jazīrah, the frontier fortresses, and the ʿawāṣim, and appointed his brother Abū Isḥāq al-Muʿtaṣim over al-Shām and Miṣr. He ordered for each of the two of them and for ʿAbd Allāh b. Ṭāhir five hundred thousand dirhams. It was said: Never was such an amount of money distributed in a single day.
