The Year 212 AH
( وَفِيهَا سَيَّرَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ صَاحِبُ الْأَنْدَلُسِ جَيْشًا إِلَى بَلَدِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ، فَوَصَلُوا إِلَى بَرْشَلُونَةَ، ثُمَّ سَارُوا إِلَى جَرِنْدَةَ )، وَقَاتَلَ أَهْلَهَا فِي رَبِيعٍ الْأَوَّلِ، فَأَقَامَ الْجَيْشُ شَهْرَيْنِ يَنْهَبُونَ وَيُخَرِّبُونَ. وَفِيهَا كَانَتْ سُيُولٌ عَظِيمَةٌ وَأَمْطَارٌ مُتَتَابِعَةٌ بِالْأَنْدَلُسِ، فَخَرِبَتْ أَكْثَرُ الْأَسْوَارِ بِمَدَائِنِ ثَغْرِ الْأَنْدَلُسِ، وَخَرِبَتْ قَنْطَرَةُ سَرَقُسْطَةَ، ثُمَّ جُدِّدَتْ عِمَارَتُهَا وَأُحْكِمَتْ. ( بَرْشَلُونَةُ بِالْبَاءِ الْمُوَحَّدَةِ وَالرَّاءِ وَالشِّينِ الْمُعْجَمَةِ وَاللَّامِ وَالْوَاوِ وَالنُّونِ وَالْهَاءِ ).
Translation
✧ (And in it ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, the ruler of al-Andalus, dispatched an army to the land of the polytheists, and they reached Barshalūnah, then marched to Jarindah), and fought its people in Rabīʿ al-Awwal. The army stayed for two months plundering and destroying. And in it there were great torrents and successive rains in al-Andalus, so most of the walls of the cities of the frontier of al-Andalus were ruined, and the bridge of Saraqusṭah was ruined, then its construction was renewed and made strong. (Barshalūnah is with a single-pointed bāʾ, rāʾ, three-pointed shīn, lām, wāw, nūn, and hāʾ).
