وَفِيهَا وَلَّى الْمَأْمُونُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ صَدَقَةَ، الْمَعْرُوفَ بِزُرَيْقٍ، عَلَى أَرْمِينِيَّةَ وَأَذْرَبِيجَانَ ، وَأَمَرَهُ بِمُحَارَبَةِ بَابَكَ، وَأَقَامَ بِأَمْرِهِ أَحْمَدَ بْنَ الْجُنَيْدِ الْإِسْكَافِيَّ، فَأَسَرَهُ بَابَكُ، فَوَلَّى إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنَ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ أَذْرَبِيجَانَ.
Translation
✧ In this year, al-Maʾmūn appointed ʿAlī b. Ṣadaqah, known as Zurayq, over Armenia and Azerbaijan, and commanded him to fight Bābak. He (Zurayq) entrusted the conduct of that command to Aḥmad b. al-Junayd al-Iskāfī, but Bābak took him prisoner. Then (al-Maʾmūn) appointed Ibrāhīm b. al-Layth b. al-Faḍl over Azerbaijan.
