The Year 203 AH
وَفِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ غَلَبَتِ السَّوْدَاءُ عَلَى الْحَسَنِ بْنِ سَهْلٍ حَتَّى قُيِّدَ فِي الْحَدِيدِ وَأُودِعَ فِي بَيْتٍ، فَكَتَبَ الْأُمَرَاءُ بِذَلِكَ إِلَى الْمَأْمُونِ فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِمْ: إِنِّي وَاصِلٌ عَلَى إِثْرِ كِتَابِي هَذَا، ثُمَّ جَرَتْ حُرُوبٌ كَثِيرَةٌ بَيْنَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَأَهْلِ بَغْدَادَ وَتَنَكَّرُوا عَلَيْهِ وَأَبْغَضُوهُ. وَظَهَرَتِ الْفِتَنُ وَالشُّطَّارُ وَالْفُسَّاقُ بِبَغْدَادَ وَتَفَاقَمَ الْحَالُ وَصَلَّوْا يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ ظُهْرًا، أَمَّهُمُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ مِنْ غَيْرِ خُطْبَةٍ؛ صَلَّوْا أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ، وَاشْتَدَّ الْأَمْرُ، وَاخْتَلَفَ النَّاسُ فِيمَا بَيْنَهُمْ فِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَالْمَأْمُونِ، ثُمَّ غَلَبَتِ الْمَأْمُونِيَّةُ عَلَيْهِمْ.
Translation
✧ In this year, black bile overpowered al-Ḥasan b. Sahl to the point that he was fettered in iron and confined in a room. The commanders wrote about that to al-Maʾmūn, and he wrote to them: “I am arriving on the heels of this letter of mine.” Then many wars took place between Ibrāhīm and the people of Baghdad, and they turned against him and hated him. Strife, rogues, and dissolute people appeared in Baghdad, and the situation worsened. They prayed the Friday prayer as ẓuhr; the muezzin led them without a sermon—they prayed four rakʿahs. The matter became severe, and the people differed among themselves regarding Ibrāhīm and al-Maʾmūn. Then the supporters of al-Maʾmūn prevailed over them.
