ذِكْرُ الْفِتْنَةِ بِالْمَوْصِلِ وَفِيهَا وَقَعَتِ الْفِتْنَةُ بِالْمَوْصِلِ بَيْنَ بَنِي سَامَةَ وَبَنِي ثَعْلَبَةَ، فَاسْتَجَارَتْ ثَعْلَبَةُ بِمُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ الْهَمْدَانِيِّ، وَهُوَ أَخُو عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ، أَمِيرِ الْبَلَدِ، فَأَمَرَهُمْ بِالْخُرُوجِ إِلَى الْبَرِّيَّةِ، فَفَعَلُوا، فَتَبِعَهُمْ بَنُو سَامَةَ فِي أَلْفِ رَجُلٍ إِلَى الْعَوْجَاءِ، وَحَصَرُوهُمْ فِيهَا، فَبَلَغَ الْخَبَرُ عَلِيًّا وَمُحَمَّدًا ابْنَيِ الْحُسَيْنِ، فَأَرْسَلَا الرِّجَالَ إِلَيْهِمْ، وَاقْتَتَلُوا قِتَالًا شَدِيدًا، فَقُتِلَ مِنْ بَنِي سَامَةَ جَمَاعَةٌ، وَأُسِرَ جَمَاعَةٌ مِنْهُمْ، وَمَنْ بَنِي تَغْلِبَ، وَكَانُوا مَعَهُمْ، فَحُبِسُوا فِي الْبَلَدِ. ثُمَّ إِنَّ أَحْمَدَ بْنَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ الْعَدَوِيَّ التَّغْلِبِيَّ أَتَى مُحَمَّدًا، وَطَلَبَ إِلَيْهِ الْمُسَالَمَةَ، فَأَجَابَهُ إِلَى ذَلِكَ، وَصَلُحَ الْأَمْرُ، وَسَكَنَتِ الْفِتْنَةُ.
Translation
✧ Mention of the strife in al-Mawṣil In this year, strife occurred in al-Mawṣil between Banū Sāmah and Banū Thaʿlabah. Thaʿlabah sought the protection of Muḥammad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Hamdānī, who was the brother of ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn, the governor of the town. He ordered them to go out to the open country, and they did so. Banū Sāmah pursued them with a thousand men to al-ʿAwjāʾ and besieged them there. The news reached ʿAlī and Muḥammad, the two sons of al-Ḥusayn, so they sent men to them, and they fought a fierce battle. A group of Banū Sāmah was killed, and a group of them and of Banū Taghlib, who were with them, was taken prisoner, and they were imprisoned in the town. Then Aḥmad b. ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb al-ʿAdawī al-Taghlibī came to Muḥammad and sought a peace settlement from him. He granted him that, the matter was reconciled, and the strife subsided.
