ثُمَّ دَخَلَتْ سَنَةُ تِسْعٍ وَتِسْعِينَ وَمِائَةٍ فِيهَا قَدِمَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ بَغْدَادَ نَائِبًا عَلَيْهَا مِنْ جِهَةِ الْمَأْمُونِ وَوَجَّهَ نُوَّابَهُ إِلَى بَقِيَّةِ أَعْمَالِهِ، وَتَوَجَّهَ طَاهِرٌ إِلَى نِيَابَةِ الْجَزِيرَةِ وَالشَّامِ وَمِصْرَ وَبِلَادِ الْمَغْرِبِ، وَسَارَ هَرْثَمَةُ إِلَى نِيَابَةِ خُرَاسَانَ. وَكَانَ قَدْ خَرَجَ فِي أَوَاخِرِ السَّنَةِ الْمَاضِيَةِ فِي ذِي الْحِجَّةِ مِنْهَا الْحَسَنُ الْهِرْشُ يَدْعُو إِلَى الرِّضَا مِنْ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ، فَجَبَى الْأَمْوَالَ، وَانْتَهَبَ الْأَنْعَامَ، وَعَاثَ فِي الْبِلَادِ فَسَادًا، فَبَعَثَ إِلَيْهِ الْمَأْمُونُ جَيْشًا، فَقَتَلُوهُ فِي الْمُحَرَّمِ مِنْ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ.
Translation
✧ Then the year one hundred and ninety-nine AH commenced. In it, al-Ḥasan b. Sahl arrived in Baghdad as its governor on behalf of al-Maʾmūn; he dispatched his deputies to the rest of his provinces, Ṭāhir proceeded to the governorship of al-Jazīrah, Syria, Egypt, and the lands of the Maghrib, and Harthamah set out for the governorship of Khurāsān. It had happened that in the late part of the previous year, in Dhū al-Ḥijjah, al-Ḥasan al-Hirsh rose up calling for al-Riḍā from the family of Muḥammad ﷺ; he collected taxes, plundered livestock, and spread corruption throughout the land. Al-Maʾmūn sent an army against him, and they killed him in Muḥarram of this year.
