Translation

✧ Mention of several events In the year one hundred and ninety-two, the Khurramiyya stirred in the region of Adhrabayjān. Al-Rashīd sent against them ʿAbd Allāh b. Mālik with ten thousand men, and he killed, took captives, and made prisoners. He met him at Qarmāsīn, and he ordered him to kill the prisoners and sell the captives. In it, Yaḥyā b. Muʿādh came to al-Rashīd with Abū al-Nidāʾ, and he killed him. In it, a group of commanders parted from Rāfiʿ b. al-Layth and went over to Harthama, among them ʿUjayf b. ʿAnbasa and others. In it, al-Rashīd appointed Thābit b. Naṣr b. Mālik over the frontier fortresses, and he conquered Maṭmūra. In it, the ransom took place at al-Badhandūn. In it, Tharwān al-Ḥarūrī rose in the marshlands of al-Baṣra and fought the sultan’s governor there. In it, ʿĪsā b. Jaʿfar b. al-Manṣūr died at al-Daskara while he was seeking to join al-Rashīd. In it, al-Rashīd killed al-Hayṣam al-Yamānī. Al-ʿAbbās b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Jaʿfar b. al-Manṣūr led the people in pilgrimage this year. In it, Harthama reached Khurāsān, as previously mentioned, and Harthama besieged Rāfiʿ b. al-Layth in Samarqand and pressed him hard. He summoned Ṭāhir b. al-Ḥusayn, who came to him, and Khurāsān was left open for Ḥamza the Khārijite until he entered it and took to killing and gathering wealth. The governors of Harāt and Sijistān carried it to him. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Naysābūrī went out against him, and about twenty thousand gathered to him. He marched against Ḥamza, fought him with a severe battle, and killed a multitude of Ḥamza’s companions. He pursued him until he reached Harāt, and that was in the year one hundred and ninety-four. Al-Maʾmūn wrote to him, so he turned him back, and Harthama continued the siege of Samarqand until he conquered it. (And he killed Rāfiʿ b. al-Layth and a group of his relatives, and appointed Ibn Yaḥyā over what lies beyond the river, then returned. The killing of Rāfiʿ was in the year one hundred and ninety-five.) In it, the second ransom took place between the Muslims and the Byzantines, and the one in charge of it was Thābit b. Naṣr b. Mālik al-Khuzāʿī. The number of Muslim prisoners was two thousand five hundred prisoners. In it, al-Rashīd ordered the demolition of the mosque of al-Manṣūr and its rebuilding. Ismāʿīl b. ʿAlī al-Ḥabaṭī said: The mosque of Abū Jaʿfar was demolished, it was extended on its sides, its construction was renewed, and it was made firm. The beginning of it was in the year one hundred and ninety-two, and the completion of it in the year one hundred and ninety-three.
