غَزْوِ الْفِرِنْجِ وَالْجَلَالِقَةِ بِالْأَنْدَلُسِ وفي سَنَةُ ثَمَانٍ وَسَبْعِينَ وَمِائَةٍ سَيَّرَ هِشَامٌ صَاحِبُ الْأَنْدَلُسِ عَسْكَرًا مَعَ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ بْنِ مُغِيثٍ إِلَى بِلَادِ الْفِرِنْجِ، فَغَزَا أَلَبَةَ، وَالْقِلَاعَ، فَغَنِمَ وَسَلِمَ. وَسَيَّرَ أَيْضًا جَيْشًا آخَرَ مَعَ أَخِيهِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ إِلَى بِلَادِ الْجَلَالِقَةِ فَخَرَّبَ دَارَ مَلِكِهِمْ أَذَّفَنْشَ وَكَنَائِسَهُ، وَغَنِمَ. فَلَمَّا قَفَلَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ ضَلَّ الدَّلِيلُ بِهِمْ، فَنَالَهُمْ مَشَقَّةٌ شَدِيدَةٌ وَمَاتَ مِنْهُمْ بَشَرٌ كَثِيرٌ، وَنَفَقَتْ دَوَابُّهُمْ، وَتَلِفَتْ آلَاتُهُمْ، ثُمَّ سَلِمُوا وَعَادُوا.
Translation
✧ The campaign against the Franks and the Galicians in al-Andalus In the year one hundred and seventy-eight, Hishām, the ruler of al-Andalus, dispatched an army under ʿAbd al-Karīm b. ʿAbd al-Wāḥid b. Mughīth to the lands of the Franks. He raided Álava and al-Qilāʿ, gaining booty and returning safely. He also dispatched another army under his brother ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿAbd al-Wāḥid to the lands of the Galicians. He laid waste to the abode of their king Adhfunsh and his churches, and took booty. When the Muslims set out on their return, the guide lost the way, and they suffered severe hardship. Many of them died, their mounts perished, and their equipment was ruined. Then they were saved and returned.
