غَزْوِ الْفِرِنْجِ بِالْأَنْدَلُسِ وَفِي سَنَةُ سَبْعٍ وَسَبْعِينَ وَمِائَةٍ سَيَّرَ هِشَامٌ، صَاحِبُ الْأَنْدَلُسِ، جَيْشًا كَثِيفًا، وَاسْتَعْمَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَبْدَ الْمَلِكِ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ بْنِ مُغِيثٍ، فَدَخَلُوا بِلَادَ الْعَدُوِّ، فَبَلَغُوا أَرْبُونَةَ، وَجَرَنْدَةَ، فَبَدَأَ بِجَرَنْدَةَ، وَكَانَ بِهَا حَامِيَةُ الْفِرِنْجِ، فَقَتَلَ رِجَالِهَا، وَهَدَمَ أَسْوَارَهَا وَأَبْرَاجَهَا، وَأَشْرَفَ عَلَى فَتْحِهَا. فَرَحَلَ عَنْهَا إِلَى أَرْبُونَةَ فَفَعَلَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، وَأَوْغَلَ فِي بِلَادِهِمْ، وَوَطِئَ أَرْضَ شُرْطَانِيَةَ، فَاسْتَبَاحَ حَرِيمَهَا، وَقَتَلَ مُقَاتِلَتَهَا، وَجَاسَ الْبِلَادَ شُهُورًا يُخَرِّبُ الْحُصُونَ، وَيُحَرِّقُ وَيَغْنَمُ، قَدْ أَجَفَلَ الْعَدُوُّ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ هَارِبًا، وَأَوْغَلَ فِي بِلَادِهِمْ، وَرَجَعَ سَالِمًا مَعَهُ مِنَ الْغَنَائِمِ مَا لَا يَعْلَمُهُ إِلَّا اللَّهُ تَعَالَى، وَهِيَ مِنْ أَشْهَرِ مَغَازِي الْمُسْلِمِينَ بِالْأَنْدَلُسِ.
Translation
✧ The raid of the Franks in al-Andalus In the year one hundred and seventy-seven, Hishām, ruler of al-Andalus, dispatched a substantial army and appointed over them ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿAbd al-Wāḥid b. Mughīth. They entered the lands of the enemy and reached Arbūnah and Jarandah. He began with Jarandah, where the Frankish garrison was stationed, and he killed its men and demolished its walls and towers, and was on the verge of conquering it. Then he departed from it to Arbūnah and did the same. He penetrated deep into their lands and trod the soil of Shurṭāniyah, plundered its sanctuaries, killed its fighting men, and roamed the country for months destroying fortresses, burning, and taking booty. The enemy fled before him in haste, and he advanced deep into their territory and returned safely, bringing with him spoils that none knows but God Almighty. This was one of the most celebrated campaigns of the Muslims in al-Andalus.
