Then the year 166 AH began
وَفِيهَا تُوُفِّيَ الْجَرَّاحُ بْنُ مُلَيْحٍ الرُّؤَاسِيُّ، وَهُوَ وَالِدُ وَكِيعٍ. وَفِيهَا قَتَلَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأُمَوِيُّ صَاحِبُ الْأَنْدَلُسِ ابْنَ أَخِيهِ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ هِشَامٍ، وَهُذَيْلَ بْنَ الصُّمَيْلِ، وَسَمُرَةَ بْنَ جَبَلَةَ، لِأَنَّهُمُ اجْتَمَعُوا عَلَى خَلْعِهِ مَعَ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ حُمَيْدٍ الْقُشَيْرِيُّ، فَتَقَرَّبَ بِهِمْ. وَفِيهَا تُوُفِّيَ صَدَقَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ السَّمِينُ، وَأَبُو الْأَشْهَبِ الْعُطَارِدِيُّ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ النَّهْشَلِيُّ، وَعُفَيْرُ بْنُ مَعْدَانَ.
Translation
✧ In this year al-Jarrāḥ b. Mulayḥ al-Ruʾāsī died, and he was the father of Wakīʿ. In this year ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Umawī, ruler of al-Andalus, killed his nephew al-Mughīrah b. al-Walīd b. Muʿāwiyah b. Hishām, Hudhayl b. al-Ṣumayl, and Samurah b. Jabalah, because they had gathered to depose him together with al-ʿAlāʾ b. Ḥumayd al-Qushayrī, and so he made an example of them. In this year died Ṣadaqah b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Samīn, Abū al-Ashhab al-ʿUṭāridī, Abū Bakr al-Nahshalī, and ʿUfayr b. Maʿdān.
