Then the year 165 AH began

الْيَاقُوتَةُ بِنْتُ الْمَهْدِيِّ ذِكْرُ مَنْ تُوُفِّيَ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ مِنَ الْأَكَابِرِ   الْيَاقُوتَةُ بِنْتُ الْمَهْدِيِّ تُوُفِّيَتْ فَجَزِعَ عَلَيْهَا جَزَعًا شَدِيدًا، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ شَبِيبُ بْنُ شَيْبَةَ فَأَنْشَدَهُ يَقُولُ: فَحَسْبِي بَقَاءُ اللَّهِ مِنْ كُلِّ مَيِّتٍ وَحَسْبِي ثَوَابُ اللَّهِ مِنْ كُلِّ هَالِكِ     إِذَا كَانَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ عَنِّي رَاضِيًا فَإِنَّ شِفَاءَ النَّفْسِ فِيمَا هُنَالِكِ فَدَعَا بِالطَّعَامِ ثُمَّ أَكَلَ. عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ زَبْرِ بْنِ عَطَاءٍ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ زَبْرِ بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، أَبُو زَبْرٍ الْعِجْلِيُّ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ. وُلِدَ سَنَةَ خَمْسٍ وَسَبْعِينَ، وَحَدَّثَ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، وَسَالِمٍ، وَالزُّهْرِيِّ، وَمَكْحُولٍ. رَوَى عَنْهُ: الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ وَشَبَّابَةُ، وَكَانَ ثِقَةً. رَوَّادٌ الْعِجْلِيُّ تُوُفِّيَ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. رَوَّادٌ الْعِجْلِيُّ. عَاهَدَ اللَّهَ سُبْحَانَهُ أَنْ لَا يَضْحَكَ حَتَّى يَرَاهُ. وَعَنْ سِكِّينُ بْنُ مِسْكِينٍ قَالَ: كَانَتْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ رَوَّادٍ قَرَابَةٌ، فَسَأَلْتُ أُخْتًا لَهُ كَانَتْ أَصْغَرَ مِنْهُ، كَيْفَ كَانَ لَيْلُهُ؟ قَالَتْ: يَبْكِي عَامَّةَ اللَّيْلِ وَيَصْرُخُ. قُلْتُ: فَمَا كَانَ طَعَامُهُ؟ قَالَتْ: قُرْصًا مِنْ أَوَّلِ اللَّيْلِ وَقُرْصًا فِي آخِرِهِ عِنْدَ السَّحَرِ، قُلْتُ: فَتَحْفَظِينَ مِنْ دُعَائِهِ شَيْئًا. قَالَتْ: نَعَمْ، كَانَ إِذَا كَانَ السَّحَرُ أَوْ قَرِيبٌ مِنْ طُلُوعِ الْفَجْرِ سَجَدَ، ثُمَّ بَكَى، ثُمَّ قَالَ: مَوْلَايَ عَبْدُكَ يُحِبُّ الِاتِّصَالَ بِطَاعَتِكَ فَأَعِنْهُ عَلَيْهَا بِتَوْفِيقِكَ. مَوْلَايَ عَبْدُكَ يُحِبُّ اجْتِنَابَ خَطِيئَتِكَ فَأَعِنْهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ بِمَنِّكَ. مَوْلَايَ عَبْدُكَ عَظِيمُ الرَّجَاءِ لِخَيْرِكَ فَلَا تَقْطَعْ رَجَاءَهُ يَوْمَ يَفْرَحُ بِخَيْرِكَ الْفَائِزُونَ. قَالَتْ: فَلَا يَزَالُ عَلَى هَذَا وَنَحْوِهِ حَتَّى يُصْبِحَ، قَالَتْ: وَكَانَ قَدْ كَلَّ مِنَ الِاجْتِهَادِ جِدًّا وَتَغَيَّرَ لَوْنُهُ. قَالَ سِكِّينٌ: فَلَمَّا مَاتَ رَوَّادٌ وَحُمِلَ إِلَى حُفْرَتِهِ نَزَلُوا لِيُدَلُّوهُ فِي حُفْرَتِهِ فَإِذَا اللَّحْدُ مَفْرُوشٌ بِالرَّيْحَانِ، وَأَخَذَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الرَّيْحَانِ شَيْئًا فَمَكَثَ سَبْعِينَ يَوْمًا طَرِيًّا لَا يَتَغَيَّرُ، يَغْدُو النَّاسُ وَيَرُوحُونَ وَيَنْظُرُونَ إِلَيْهِ، قَالَ فَكَثُرَ النَّاسُ فِي ذَلِكَ حَتَّى خَافَ الْأَمِيرُ أَنْ يُفْتَتَنَ النَّاسُ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى الرَّجُلِ، فَأَخَذَ ذَلِكَ الرَّيْحَانَ وَفَرَّقَ النَّاسَ، وَفَقَدَهُ الْأَمِيرُ مِنْ مَنْزِلِهِ لَا يَدْرِي كَيْفَ ذَهَبَ. وَفِيهَا تُوُفِّيَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ ثَابِتِ بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ، وَوُهَيْبُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ. وَفِيهَا مَاتَ يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ شَهْرِ بْنِ مَثُوبٍ، وَهُوَ مِنْ وَلَدِ شَهْرٍ ذِي الْجَنَاحِ الْحِمْيَرِيِّ، خَالِ الْمَهْدِيِّ، وَقَدْ كَانَ وَلِيَ الْيَمَنَ وَالْبَصْرَةَ وَالْحَجَّ. وَفِيهَا تُوُفِّيَ فَتْحُ بْنُ الْوَشَّاحِ الْمَوْصِلِيُّ الزَّاهِدُ.

Translation

✧ Al-Yāqūtah bt. al-Mahdī Mention of those of the notables who died in this year Al-Yāqūtah bt. al-Mahdī She died, and he grieved over her with intense grief. Shabīb b. Shaybah entered upon him and recited to him, saying: Sufficient for me is God's enduring from every dying one, and sufficient for me is God's reward from every perished one. If the Lord of the Throne is pleased with me, then the healing of the soul lies in what is there. So he called for food, then ate. ʿAbd Allāh b. al-ʿAlāʾ b. Zabr b. ʿAṭāʾ ʿAbd Allāh b. al-ʿAlāʾ b. Zabr b. ʿAṭāʾ, Abū Zabr al-ʿIjlī al-Dimashqī. He was born in the year seventy-five, and he narrated from al-Qāsim b. Muḥammad b. Abī Bakr, Sālim, al-Zuhrī, and Makḥūl. Narrated from him: al-Walīd b. Muslim and Shabābah, and he was trustworthy. Rawwād al-ʿIjlī He died in this year. Rawwād al-ʿIjlī. He made a covenant with God, glorified be He, that he would not laugh until he sees Him. And from Sikkīn b. Miskīn, who said: Between us and Rawwād there was kinship, so I asked a sister of his who was younger than him, "How was his night?" She said, "He would weep most of the night and cry out." I said, "What was his food?" She said, "A flatbread at the beginning of the night and a flatbread at its end at the time of pre-dawn meal." I said, "Do you remember anything of his supplication?" She said, "Yes. When it was pre-dawn or near the break of dawn, he would prostrate, then weep, then say: 'My master, Your servant loves to be joined to Your obedience, so help him upon it with Your granting of success. My master, Your servant loves to avoid disobedience to You, so help him upon that with Your grace. My master, Your servant has great hope for Your good, so do not cut off his hope on the day when the successful rejoice in Your good.'" She said, "He would continue upon this and the like of it until morning." She said, "He had become extremely exhausted from exertion, and his color had changed." Sikkīn said, "When Rawwād died and was carried to his grave, they went down to lower him into his grave, and behold, the laḥd was spread with sweet basil. Some of the people took a bit of that sweet basil, and it remained fresh for seventy days without changing. People would go and return and look at it." He said, "The people became so numerous in that matter that the governor feared that the people would be put to trial, so he sent to the man, and he took that sweet basil and dispersed the people. The governor lost it from his house, not knowing how it went." In this year died Sulaymān b. al-Mughīrah, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Thābit b. Thawbān, and Wuhayb b. Khālid. In it died Yazīd b. Manṣūr b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Yazīd b. Shahr b. Mathūb, who was from the descendants of Shahr Dhū al-Janāḥ al-Ḥimyarī, the maternal uncle of al-Mahdī. He had governed Yemen, al-Baṣrah, and led the pilgrimage. In it died Fatḥ b. al-Washshāḥ al-Mawṣilī the ascetic.
