Then the year 158 AH began
فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ عَزَلَ الْمَنْصُورُ الْمُسَيَّبَ بْنَ زُهَيْرٍ عَنْ شُرْطَتِهِ، وَحَبَسَهُ مُقَيَّدًا، وَسَبَبُ ذَلِكَ أَنَّهُ ضَرَبَ أَبَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ الْكَاتِبَ بِالسِّيَاطِ، حَتَّى قَتَلَهُ، لِأَنَّهُ كَانَ شَرِيكَ أَخِيهِ عَمْرِو بْنِ زُهَيْرٍ فِي وِلَايَةِ الْكُوفَةِ، وَاسْتَعْمَلَ عَلَى شُرْطَتِهِ الْحَكَمَ بْنَ يُوسُفَ، صَاحِبَ الْحِرَابِ، ثُمَّ كَلَّمَ الْمَهْدِيُّ أَبَاهُ فِي الْمُسَيَّبِ، فَرَضِيَ عَنْهُ، وَأَعَادَهُ إِلَى شُرْطَتِهِ.
Translation
✧ In this year al-Manṣūr dismissed al-Musayyab b. Zuhayr from his shurṭa, and imprisoned him in fetters. The reason for that was that he had struck Abān b. Bashīr the scribe with whips until he killed him, because he was the partner of his brother ʿAmr b. Zuhayr in the governorship of al-Kūfa. He appointed al-Ḥakam b. Yūsuf, the master of the spears, over his shurṭa. Then al-Mahdī spoke to his father concerning al-Musayyab, and he became pleased with him, and returned him to his shurṭa.
