Then the year 155 AH began

وَعُزِلَ عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ ظَبْيَانَ عَنِ الْبَصْرَةِ، وَاسْتُعْمِلَ عَلَيْهَا الْهَيْثَمُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ الْعَتَكِيُّ. وَضَمَّ إِلَيْهِ سَعِيدَ بْنَ دَعْلَجٍ وَأَمَرَهُ بِبِنَاءِ سُورٍ لَهَا يُطِيفُ بِهَا، وَخَنْدَقَ عَلَيْهَا مِنْ دُونِ السُّورِ.

Translation

✧ ʿAbd al-Malik b. Ayyūb b. Ẓabyān was dismissed from al-Baṣrah, and al-Haytham b. Muʿāwiyah al-ʿAtakī was appointed over it. He attached Saʿīd b. Daʿlaj to him and ordered him to build a wall for it surrounding it, and to dig a trench around it inside the wall.
