ذِكْرُ عَزْلِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْجَزِيرَةِ، وَاسْتِعْمَالِ مُوسَى بْنِ كَعْبٍ وَفِيهَا عَزَلَ الْمَنْصُورُ أَخَاهُ الْعَبَّاسَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْجَزِيرَةِ، وَغَضِبَ عَلَيْهِ ، وَغَرَّمَهُ مَالًا، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ سَاخِطًا عَلَيْهِ، حَتَّى غَضِبَ عَلَى عَمِّهِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ، فَشَفَعَ فِيهِ عُمُومَةُ الْمَنْصُورِ، وَضَيَّقُوا عَلَيْهِ، حَتَّى رَضِيَ عَنْهُ. فَقَالَ عِيسَى بْنُ مُوسَى لِلْمَنْصُورِ: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، أَرَى آلَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، وَإِنْ كَانَتْ نِعَمُكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سَابِغَةً، فَإِنَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ إِلَى الْحَسَدِ لَنَا، فَمِنْ ذَلِكَ أَنَّكَ غَضِبْتَ عَلَى إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ، مُنْذُ أَيَّامٍ، فَضَيَّقُوا عَلَيْكَ حَتَّى رَضِيتَ عَنْهُ، وَأَنْتَ غَضْبَانُ عَلَى أَخِيكَ الْعَبَّاسِ مُنْذُ كَذَا وَكَذَا، فَمَا كَلَّمَكَ فِيهِ أَحَدٌ مِنْهُمْ، فَرَضِيَ عَنْهُ. وَكَانَ الْمَنْصُورُ قَدِ اسْتَعْمَلَ الْعَبَّاسَ عَلَى الْجَزِيرَةِ بَعْدَ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أُسَيْدٍ، فَشَكَا يَزِيدُ مِنْهُ وَقَالَ: إِنَّهُ أَسَاءَ عَزْلِي، وَشَتَمَ عِرْضِي. فَقَالَ لَهُ الْمَنْصُورُ: اجْمَعْ بَيْنَ إِحْسَانِي وَإِسَاءَتِهِ يَعْتَدِلَا. فَقَالَ لَهُ يَزِيدُ بْنُ أُسَيْدٍ: إِذَا كَانَ إِحْسَانُكُمْ جَزَاءً لِإِسَاءَتِكُمْ كَانَتْ طَاعَتُنَا تَفَضُّلًا مِنَّا عَلَيْكَمْ. وَلَمَّا عَزَلَ الْمَنْصُورُ أَخَاهُ عَنِ الْجَزِيرَةِ اسْتَعْمَلَ عَلَيْهَا مُوسَى بْنَ كَعْبٍ .
Translation
✧ Mention of the dismissal of al-ʿAbbās b. Muḥammad from al-Jazīrah, and the appointment of Mūsā b. Kaʿb In it, al-Manṣūr dismissed his brother al-ʿAbbās b. Muḥammad from al-Jazīrah, and became angry with him, and fined him money. He remained displeased with him until he became angry with his paternal uncle Ismāʿīl b. ʿAlī, and the paternal uncles of al-Manṣūr interceded for him, and they pressured him, until he was pleased with him. ʿĪsā b. Mūsā said to al-Manṣūr: O Commander of the Faithful, I see that the family of ʿAlī b. ʿAbd Allāh, even though your favors upon them are abundant, they return to envy toward us. One example of that is that you became angry with Ismāʿīl b. ʿAlī some days ago, and they pressured you until you were pleased with him, while you have been angry with your brother al-ʿAbbās for such and such a time, and none of them spoke to you about him, so he was pleased with him. Al-Manṣūr had appointed al-ʿAbbās over al-Jazīrah after Yazīd b. Usayd, and Yazīd complained about him and said: He mistreated me in my dismissal and insulted my honor. Al-Manṣūr said to him: Combine my good treatment with his mistreatment, and they will balance out. Yazīd b. Usayd said to him: If your good treatment is a recompense for your mistreatment, then our obedience would be a favor from us upon you. When al-Manṣūr dismissed his brother from al-Jazīrah, he appointed over it Mūsā b. Kaʿb.
