Then the year 148 AH began
[ وِلَادَةُ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ يَحْيَى ] وَفِيهَا وُلِدَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ خَالِدِ بْنِ بَرْمَكَ لِسَبْعٍ بَقِينَ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُولَدَ الرَّشِيدُ بْنُ الْمَهْدِيِّ بِسَبْعَةِ أَيَّامٍ، فَأَرْضَعَتْهُ الْخَيْزُرَانُ أُمُّ الرَّشِيدِ بِلَبَنِ ابْنِهَا، فَكَانَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ يَحْيَى أَخَا الرَّشِيدِ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ. وَلِذَلِكَ يَقُولُ سَلْمٌ الْخَاسِرُ: أَصْبَحَ الْفَضْلُ وَالْخَلِيفَةُ هَارُو نُ رَضِيعَيْ لِبَانِ خَيْرِ النِّسَاءِ. وَقَالَ أَبُو الْجَنُوبِ: كَفَى لَكَ فَضْلًا أَنَّ أَفْضَلَ حُرَّةٍ غَذَّتْكَ بِثَدْيٍ وَالْخَلِيفَةَ وَاحِدِ .
Translation
✧ [The birth of al-Faḍl b. Yaḥyā] In this year al-Faḍl b. Yaḥyā b. Khālid b. Barmak was born, with seven nights remaining of Dhū al-Ḥijjah, seven days before al-Rashīd b. al-Mahdī was born. Al-Khayzurān, the mother of al-Rashīd, suckled him with the milk of her son. Thus al-Faḍl b. Yaḥyā was the foster-brother of al-Rashīd. For that reason Salm al-Khāsir said: Al-Faḍl and the Caliph Hārūn became foster-brothers through the milk of the best of women. And Abū al-Janūb said: It suffices you as a virtue, O Faḍl, that the noblest free woman nourished you and the Caliph at one breast.
