Then the year 146 AH began
فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ عُزِلَ سَلْمُ بْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ عَنِ الْبَصْرَةِ . وَكَانَ سَبَبُ عَزْلِهِ أَنَّ الْمَنْصُورَ كَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ يَأْمُرُهُ بِهَدْمِ دُورِ مَنْ خَرَجَ مَعَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَبِعَقْرِ نَخْلِهِمْ، فَكَتَبَ سَلْمٌ: بِأَيِّ ذَلِكَ أَبْدَأُ، بِالدُّورِ أَمْ بِالنَّخْلِ ؟ فَأَنْكَرَ الْمَنْصُورُ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ وَعَزَلَهُ. وَاسْتَعْمَلَ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ سُلَيْمَانَ، فَعَاثَ بِالْبَصْرَةِ وَهَدَمَ دَارَ أَبِي مَرْوَانَ، وَدَارَ عَوْنِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، وَدَارَ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، وَغَيْرِهِمْ. وَغَزَا الصَّائِفَةَ هَذِهِ السَّنَةَ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ حَنْظَلَةَ الْبَهْرَانِيُّ. وَفِيهَا عُزِلَ عَنِ الْمَدِينَةِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ الْحَارِثِيُّ، وَوَلِيَ مَكَانَهُ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، فَقَدِمَهَا فِي رَبِيعٍ الْأَوَّلِ، وَفِيهَا عُزِلَ عَنْ مَكَّةَ السَّرِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَوَلِيَهَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ.
Translation
✧ In this year Salm b. Qutaybah was dismissed from al-Baṣrah. The reason for his dismissal was that al-Manṣūr wrote to him commanding him to demolish the houses of those who had gone out with Ibrāhīm and to cut down their palm trees. Salm wrote back: With which of these should I begin, the houses or the palm trees? Al-Manṣūr disapproved of that from him and dismissed him. He appointed Muḥammad b. Sulaymān, who wrought havoc in al-Baṣrah and demolished the house of Abū Marwān, the house of ʿAwn b. Mālik, the house of ʿAbd al-Wāḥid b. Ziyād, and others. This year Jaʿfar b. Ḥanẓalah al-Bahrānī led the summer expedition. In it ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Rabīʿ al-Ḥārithī was dismissed from al-Madīnah, and Jaʿfar b. Sulaymān was appointed in his place. He arrived there in Rabīʿ al-Awwal. In it al-Sarī b. ʿAbd Allāh was dismissed from Makkah, and ʿAbd al-Ṣamad b. ʿAlī was appointed over it.
