ذِكْرُ مَنْ تُوُفِّيَ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ مِنَ الْأَكَابِرِ 737 - خَيْرُ بْنُ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ بْنِ كُرَيْبٍ، أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ. وَلِيَ الْقَضَاءَ وَالْقَصَصَ فِي آخِرِ خِلَافَةٍ بَنِي أُمَيَّةَ وَأَوَّلِ خِلَافَةِ بَنِي الْعَبَّاسِ، وَكَانَ فَقِيهًا. رَوَى عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ. وَرَوَى عَنْهُ: يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، وَحَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ، وَاللَّيْثُ، وَابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ. قَالَ سُهَيْلُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ: كُنْتُ أُجَالِسُ خَيْرَ بْنَ نُعَيْمٍ، فَرَأَيْتُهُ يَتَّجِرُ فِي الزَّيْتِ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: وَأَنْتَ أَيْضًا تَتَّجِرُ؟ فَضَرَبَ بِيَدِهِ عَلَى كَتِفِي، ثُمَّ قَالَ: انْتَظِرْ حَتَّى تَجُوعَ بِبَطْنِ غَيْرِكَ. فَقُلْتُ فِي نَفْسِي: كَيْفَ يَجُوعُ الْإِنْسَانُ بِبَطْنِ غَيْرِهِ. فَلَمَّا بُلِيتُ بِالْعِيَالِ إِذَا أَنَا أَجُوعُ بِبُطُونِهِمْ. تُوُفِّيَ خَيْرُ بْنُ نُعَيْمٍ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. 738 - عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ. صَاحِبُ الدَّوْلَةِ الْعَبَّاسِيَّةِ. 739 - عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ الْعَوَّامِ. سَمِعَ أَبَاهُ، وَرَوَى عَنْهُ أَخُوهُ هِشَامٌ، وَابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ. وَكَانَ قَلِيلَ الْحَدِيثِ، وَكَانَ مِنْ وُجُوهِ قُرَيْشٍ وَسَادَاتِهِمْ، وَكَانَ جَمِيلَ الْوَجْهِ، حَسَنَ الثَّوْبِ وَالْمَرْكَبِ، عَطِرًا، حَتَّى كَانَ أَبُوهُ يَقُولُ لَهُ وَهُوَ يُغَلِّفُ لِحْيَتَهُ بِالْغَالِيَةِ: إِنِّي لَأَرَاهَا سَتَقْطُرُ. وعن مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ: وَفَدَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ عَلَى مَرْوَانَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ فَأَخْبَرَ بِهِ، فَقَالَ: أَنَا رَاكِبٌ غَدًا، فَلَا تَرُونِيهِ حَتَّى أَتَوَسَّمَهُ فِي النَّاسِ، فَرَكِبَ، فَتَصَفَّحَ وُجُوهَ النَّاسِ، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَى بَعْضِ مَنْ مَعَهُ فَقَالَ: يَنْبَغِي أَنْ يَكُونَ هَا ذَاكَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، وَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهِ. فَقَالُوا: هُوَ هُوَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ. وَكَانَ وَسِيمًا جَسِيمًا فَأَعْطَاهُ مَرْوَانُ مِائَةَ أَلْفِ دِرْهَمٍ، ثُمَّ قَدِمَ مِنْ عِنْدِ مَرْوَانَ فَأَغْلِي كِرَاءَ الْحُمُرِ مِنْ كَثْرَةِ مَنْ تَلَقَّاهُ. فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: وَلِمَ ذَاكَ؟ فَقَالَ: يَرْجُونَ وَاللَّهِ جَوَائِزَهُ. 740 - وَاهِبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمَعَافِرِيُّ الْكَعْبِيُّ. يَرْوِي عَنِ: ابْنِ عُمَرَ، وَابْنِ عَمْرٍو، وَعُقْبَةُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ. رَوَى عَنْهُ: ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ وَغَيْرُهُ. تُوُفِّيَ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ بِبَرْقَةَ، وَكَانَ قَدْ عَمَّرَ.
Translation
✧ Mention of those notables who died in this year 737 - Khayr b. Nuʿaym b. Murrah b. Kurayb, Abū Nuʿaym al-Ḥaḍramī. He held the judiciary and storytelling (qaṣaṣ) at the end of the Umayyad caliphate and the beginning of the Abbasid caliphate, and he was a jurist. He narrated from ʿAṭāʾ b. Abī Rabāḥ. Narrated from him: Yazīd b. Abī Ḥabīb, Ḥaywah b. Shurayḥ, al-Layth, and Ibn Lahīʿah. Suhayl b. ʿAlī said: I used to sit with Khayr b. Nuʿaym, and I saw him trading in oil. I said to him: "And you too trade?" He struck his hand on my shoulder and said: "Wait until you go hungry with another's stomach." I said to myself: How can a person go hungry with another's stomach? When I was afflicted with dependents, then I went hungry with their stomachs. Khayr b. Nuʿaym died in this year. 738 - ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, Abū Muslim al-Marwazī, the leader of the Abbasid dynasty. 739 - ʿUthmān b. ʿUrwah b. al-Zubayr b. al-ʿAwwām. He heard his father, and from him narrated his brother Hishām and Ibn ʿUyaynah. He had few ḥadīths, and he was among the notables and leaders of Quraysh. He was handsome of face, fine of garment and mount, perfumed, so much so that his father would say to him while he was dyeing his beard with ghāliyah: "I see it will soon drip." And from Muṣʿab b. ʿUthmān, who said: ʿUthmān b. ʿUrwah came as a delegate to Marwān b. Muḥammad, and he was informed of his arrival. He said: "I will ride out tomorrow, so do not show him to me until I discern him among the people." He rode out and scanned the faces of the people, then turned to one of those with him and said: "That one should be ʿUthmān b. ʿUrwah," and he pointed to him. They said: "It is he, O Commander of the Faithful." He was handsome and imposing, so Marwān gave him one hundred thousand dirhams. Then he returned from Marwān, and the hire of donkeys became expensive because of the many who came to meet him. I said to him: "And why is that?" He said: "By God, they hope for his gifts." 740 - Wāhib b. ʿAbd Allāh, Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Maʿāfirī al-Kaʿbī. He narrated from Ibn ʿUmar, Ibn ʿAmr, and ʿUqbah b. ʿĀmir. Narrated from him: Ibn Lahīʿah and others. He died in this year in Barqah, and he had lived long.
