Then the Year 137 AH Began
وَفِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ: خَرَجَ مُلَبَّدُ بْنُ حَرْمَلَةَ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ بِنَاحِيَةِ الْجَزِيرَةِ: فَسَارَتْ إِلَيْهِ رَوَابِطُ الْجَزِيرَةِ وَهُمْ أَلْفٌ، فَقَاتَلَهُمْ مُلَبَّدٌ فَهَزَمَهُمْ، وَقَتَلَ مَنْ قَتَلَ مِنْهُمْ، ثُمَّ سَارَتْ إِلَيْهِ رَوَابِطُ الْمَوْصِلِ فَهَزَمَهُمْ، ثُمَّ سَارَ إِلَيْهِ يَزِيدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ الْمُهَلَّبِيُّ، فَهَزَمَهُ أَيْضًا بَعْدَ قِتَالٍ شَدِيدٍ، ثُمَّ وَجَّهَ إِلَيْهِ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مَوْلَاهُ الْمُهَلْهَلَ فِي أَلْفَيْنِ مِنْ نُخْبَةِ الْجُنْدِ، فَهَزَمَهُمْ مُلَبَّدٌ وَاسْتَبَاحَ عَسْكَرَهُمْ، ثُمَّ وَجَّهَ إِلَيْهِ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ مِرَارًا، فَهَزَمَ الْكُلَّ إِلَى أَنْ قَدِمَ حُمَيْدُ بْنُ قُحْطُبَةَ فَهَزَمَهُ أَيْضًا، وَتَحَصَّنَ مِنْهُ حُمَيْدٌ، وَأَعْطَاهُ مِائَةَ أَلْفِ دِرْهَمٍ حَتَّى كَفَّ عَنْهُ. وَزَعَمَ الْوَاقِدِيُّ أَنَّ ظُهُورَ مُلَبَّدٍ كَانَ فِي سَنَةِ ثَمَانٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ.
Translation
✧ In this year, Mulabbad b. Ḥarmalah al-Shaybānī rose in the region of al-Jazīrah. The garrisons of al-Jazīrah, numbering one thousand, marched against him, and Mulabbad fought them and routed them, killing whom he killed among them. Then the garrisons of al-Mawṣil marched against him, and he routed them. Then Yazīd b. Ḥātim al-Muhallabī marched against him, and he also routed him after a fierce battle. Then Abū Jaʿfar sent his mawlā al-Muhalhal against him with two thousand elite troops, and Mulabbad routed them and plundered their camp. Then he sent [forces] against him repeatedly after that, and he routed them all until Ḥumayd b. Qaḥṭabah arrived and he also routed him. Ḥumayd fortified himself against him and gave him one hundred thousand dirhams so that he would desist from him. Al-Wāqidī asserted that Mulabbad's appearance was in the year one hundred and thirty-eight.
