✧ Mention of the sedition in al-Andalus In this year, al-Ḥubāb b. Rawāḥa b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Zuhrī rose in al-Andalus and called for himself, and a group of the Yemenis gathered to him. He marched to al-Ṣumayl, who was the governor of Qurṭuba, and besieged him there and pressed him hard. Al-Ṣumayl sought reinforcements from Yūsuf al-Fihrī, the governor of al-Andalus, but he did not do so because of the successive high prices and famine in al-Andalus, and because Yūsuf had come to dislike al-Ṣumayl and preferred his destruction so that he might be rid of him. ʿĀmir al-ʿAbdarī also rose there, gathered a force, and joined al-Ḥubāb against al-Ṣumayl, and they both proclaimed the call of the Banū al-ʿAbbās. When the siege intensified against al-Ṣumayl, he wrote to his people seeking their aid. They hastened to his support, assembled, and marched to him. When al-Ḥubāb heard of their approach, al-Ṣumayl departed from Saraqusṭa and left it. Al-Ḥubāb returned to it and took possession of it, and Yūsuf al-Fihrī appointed al-Ṣumayl over Ṭulayṭula.
