Translation

✧ Then the year 135 AH began. Mention of the going forth of Ziyād b. Ṣāliḥ In this year Ziyād b. Ṣāliḥ went forth beyond the river, and Abū Muslim marched from Marw prepared to meet him. Abū Dāwūd Khālid b. Ibrāhīm sent Naṣr b. Rāshid to Tirmidh, fearing that Ziyād b. Ṣāliḥ might send to the fortress and the ships and seize them. Naṣr did that and stayed there. Then some people from al-Ṭālaqān came out against him with a man called Abū Isḥāq, and they killed Naṣr. When that reached Abū Dāwūd, he sent ʿĪsā b. Māhān in pursuit of Naṣr's killers, and he pursued them and killed them. Abū Muslim went on swiftly until he reached Āmul, and with him was Sibāʿ b. al-Nuʿmān al-Azdī, who was the one al-Saffāḥ had sent to Ziyād b. Ṣāliḥ, and he had commanded him that if he saw an opportunity, he should pounce on Abū Muslim and kill him. Abū Muslim was informed of that, so he imprisoned Sibāʿ at Āmul. Abū Muslim crossed over to Bukhārā. When he alighted there, a number of Ziyād's commanders came to him, having cast off Ziyād, and they told Abū Muslim that Sibāʿ b. al-Nuʿmān was the one who had corrupted Ziyād. So he wrote to his governor at Āmul to kill him. When Ziyād's commanders delivered him up and joined Abū Muslim, he took refuge with a dihqān there, who killed him and carried his head to Abū Muslim. Abū Dāwūd delayed behind Abū Muslim because of the situation of the people of al-Ṭālaqān. Abū Muslim wrote to him informing him of the killing of Ziyād. He came to Kiss and sent ʿĪsā b. Māhān to Bassām, and he sent troops to Shāghir. They sought peace, and they were granted that. As for Bassām, ʿĪsā did not get anything from him. ʿĪsā wrote to Kāmil b. Muẓaffar, Abū Muslim's companion, reproaching Abū Dāwūd and attributing to him partisanship. Abū Muslim sent the letters to Abū Dāwūd and wrote to him: "These are the letters of the ʿilj whom you have made your equal. So it is your affair with him." Abū Dāwūd wrote to ʿĪsā summoning him. When he came before him, he imprisoned him and beat him, then brought him out. The troops pounced on him and killed him. Abū Muslim returned to Marw.
