Translation

✧ Dāwūd b. ʿAlī b. ʿAbd Allāh b. al-ʿAbbās: He narrated from his father. When his nephew al-Saffāḥ appeared and ascended to address the people, he was struck speechless and could not speak. Dāwūd leapt up from before the pulpit and delivered the sermon, mentioning their affair and their emergence, giving the people hope and promising them justice, so they dispersed after his sermon. Al-Saffāḥ appointed him governor of Makkah and al-Madīnah, and he led the people in the ḥajj in the year 132 AH, which was the first ḥajj performed by the Banū al-ʿAbbās. Then Dāwūd went to al-Madīnah and stayed there for some months, then died there in the month of Rabīʿ al-Awwal of this year. Ḍirār b. Murrah, Abū Sinān al-Shaybānī: He narrated from Saʿīd b. Jubayr. He was one of the weepers. He had dug a grave for himself fifteen years before his death, and he would go to it and complete the recitation of the Qurʾān in it. Al-Mukhāriq said: Ḍirār b. Murrah and Muḥammad b. Sūqah, when it was Friday, each of them would seek out his companion, and when they met, they would sit and weep. ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Ajlaḥ said: Ḍirār b. Murrah used to say to us: Do not come to me as a group, but let each man come alone, for when you gather you converse, and when a man is alone he is not free from either studying his portion [of the Qurʾān] or remembering his Lord. In this year died Marwān b. Abī Saʿīd, Ibn al-Muʿallā al-Zuraqī al-Anṣārī, and ʿAlī b. Badhīmah, the freedman of Jābir b. Samurah al-Suwāʾī. (Badhīmah with a fatḥah on the bāʾ and a kasrah on the dhāl).
