Then the Year 133 AH Began
وَفِيهَا تَخَالَفَ إِخْشِيدُ فَرْغَانَةَ وَمَلِكُ الشَّاشِ، فَاسْتَمَدَّ إِخْشِيدُ مَلِكَ الصِّينِ فَأَمَدَّهُ بِمِائَةِ أَلْفِ مُقَاتِلٍ، فَحَصَرُوا مَلِكَ الشَّاشِ، فَنَزَلَ عَلَى حُكْمِ مَلِكِ الصِّينِ، فَلَمْ يَتَعَرَّضْ لَهُ وَلِأَصْحَابِهِ بِمَا يَسُوؤُهُمْ. وَبَلَغَ الْخَبَرُ أَبَا مُسْلِمٍ فَوَجَّهَ إِلَى حَرْبِهِمْ زِيَادَ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، فَالْتَقَوْا عَلَى نَهْرِ طِرَازٍ فَظَفِرَ بِهِمُ الْمُسْلِمُونَ، وَقَتَلُوا مِنْهُمْ زُهَاءَ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفًا، وَأَسَرُوا نَحْوَ عِشْرِينَ أَلْفًا، وَهَرَبَ الْبَاقُونَ إِلَى الصِّينِ، وَكَانَتِ الْوَقْعَةُ فِي ذِي الْحِجَّةِ سَنَةَ ثَلَاثٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ.
Translation
✧ In this year, the Ikhshīd of Farghānah and the king of al-Shāsh fell into conflict. The Ikhshīd sought reinforcement from the king of China, who reinforced him with a hundred thousand fighting men. They besieged the king of al-Shāsh, and he surrendered to the judgment of the king of China, who did not inflict on him or his companions anything that would harm them. The news reached Abū Muslim, and he dispatched Ziyād b. Ṣāliḥ to fight them. They met at the river of Ṭirāz, and the Muslims triumphed over them, killing among them about fifty thousand, taking captive about twenty thousand, and the rest fled to China. The battle took place in Dhū al-Ḥijjah in the year thirty-three.
