Translation

✧ Then the year 133 AH began. Account of the Byzantines' seizure of Malaṭyah. In this year Constantine, the Byzantine emperor, advanced toward Malaṭyah and Kamkh. He encamped against Kamkh, and its people sent to the people of Malaṭyah seeking their aid. Eight hundred fighting men went out to them from it, and the Byzantines fought them. The Muslims were defeated, and the Byzantines encamped against Malaṭyah and besieged it. At that time al-Jazīrah was in turmoil because of what we have mentioned, and its governor was Mūsā b. Kaʿb in Ḥarrān. Constantine sent word to the people of Malaṭyah: "I have besieged you only with knowledge of the Muslims and their dissension. You may have safe conduct and return to the lands of the Muslims until I plow Malaṭyah." They did not agree to that, so he set up mangonels, and they submitted and surrendered the town under safe conduct. They moved to the lands of Islam, carrying what they were able to carry, and what they could not carry they threw into the wells and watercourses. When they had departed from it, the Byzantines destroyed it and went away, and its people dispersed throughout the lands of al-Jazīrah. The Byzantine emperor marched to Qālīqalā and encamped at Marj al-Ḥaṣā. He sent Kūshān the Armenian, who besieged it. Some Armenian brothers from the people of the city breached an embankment that was in its wall, and Kūshān and those with him entered the city and overcame it. They killed its men, took the women captive, and drove the qāʾim to the Byzantine emperor.
