✧ Mention of the killing of Abū Salamah's governors in Fārs In this year, Abū Muslim al-Khurāsānī dispatched Muḥammad b. al-Ashʿath to Fārs and ordered him to kill the governors of Abū Salamah, and he did so. Al-Saffāḥ then sent his paternal uncle ʿĪsā b. ʿAlī to Fārs, while Muḥammad b. al-Ashʿath was over it. Muḥammad wanted to kill ʿĪsā, but it was said to him: "This is not permissible for you." He said: "Indeed, Abū Muslim ordered me that no one should come to me claiming authority from other than him except that I strike his neck." Then he left ʿĪsā alone for fear of the consequences of killing him, and he made ʿĪsā swear binding oaths that he would not ascend a pulpit or gird a sword except in jihād. After that, ʿĪsā never held a governorship nor girded a sword except in a military expedition. Then al-Saffāḥ, after that, sent Ismāʿīl b. ʿAlī as governor over Fārs.
