فَلَمَّا دَخَلَهَا -الكوفة- الْحَسَنُ هُوَ وَأَصْحَابُهُ أَتَوْا أَبَا سَلَمَةَ، وَهُوَ فِي بَنِي سَلَمَةَ، فَاسْتَخْرَجُوهُ، فَعَسْكَرَ بِالنُّخَيْلَةِ يَوْمَيْنِ ثُمَّ ارْتَحَلَ إِلَى حَمَّامِ أَعْيَنَ، وَوَجَّهَ الْحَسَنَ بْنَ قَحْطَبَةَ إِلَى وَاسِطَ لِقِتَالِ ابْنِ هُبَيْرَةَ، وَبَايَعَ النَّاسُ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ حَفْصَ بْنَ سُلَيْمَانَ مَوْلَى السُّبَيْعِ، وَكَانَ يُقَالُ لَهُ وَزِيرُ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، وَاسْتَعْمَلَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ عَلَى الْكُوفَةِ، وَكَانَ يُقَالُ لَهُ الْأَمِيرُ، حَتَّى ظَهَرَ أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ السَّفَّاحُ. وَوَجَّهَ حُمَيْدَ بْنَ قَحْطَبَةَ إِلَى الْمَدَائِنِ فِي قُوَّادٍ، وَبَعَثَ الْمُسَيَّبَ بْنَ زُهَيْرٍ وَخَالِدَ بْنَ بَرْمَكَ إِلَى دَيْرِ قُنَّى، وَبَعَثَ الْمُهَلَّبِيَّ وَشَرَاحِيلَ إِلَى عَيْنِ التَّمْرِ، وَبَسَّامَ بْنَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ بَسَّامٍ إِلَى الْأَهْوَازِ، وَبِهَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ هُبَيْرَةَ. فَلَمَّا أَتَى بَسَّامٌ الْأَهْوَازَ خَرَجَ عَنْهَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ إِلَى الْبَصْرَةِ بَعْدَ أَنْ قَاتَلَهُ وَهَزَمَهُ بَسَّامٌ، وَبَعَثَ إِلَى الْبَصْرَةِ سُفْيَانَ بْنَ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْمُهَلَّبِ عَامِلًا عَلَيْهَا، فَقَدِمَهَا وَكَانَ عَلَيْهَا سَلْمُ بْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ الْبَاهِلِيُّ عَامِلًا لِابْنِ هُبَيْرَةَ، وَقَدْ لَحِقَ بِهِ عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ هُبَيْرَةَ، كَمَا تَقَدَّمَ ذِكْرُهُ.
Translation
✧ When al-Ḥasan and his companions entered it—al-Kūfah—they came to Abū Salamah, who was among the Banū Salamah, and brought him out. He encamped at al-Nukhaylah for two days, then departed to Ḥammām Aʿyan. He dispatched al-Ḥasan b. Qaḥṭabah to Wāsiṭ to fight Ibn Hubayrah. The people gave allegiance to Abū Salamah Ḥafṣ b. Sulaymān, mawlā of al-Subayʿ, who was called the wazīr of the family of Muḥammad. Muḥammad b. Khālid appointed ʿAbd Allāh over al-Kūfah, and he was called al-amīr, until Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Saffāḥ appeared. He dispatched Ḥumayd b. Qaḥṭabah to al-Madāʾin with commanders, and sent al-Musayyab b. Zuhayr and Khālid b. Barmak to Dayr Qunnā, and sent al-Muhallabī and Sharāḥīl to ʿAyn al-Tamr, and Bassām b. Ibrāhīm b. Bassām to al-Ahwāz, where ʿAbd al-Wāḥid b. ʿUmar b. Hubayrah was. When Bassām came to al-Ahwāz, ʿAbd al-Wāḥid left it for al-Baṣrah after Bassām fought him and defeated him. He sent to al-Baṣrah Sufyān b. Muʿāwiyah b. Yazīd b. al-Muhallab as governor over it. He arrived there while Salm b. Qutaybah al-Bāhilī was governor over it for Ibn Hubayrah, and ʿAbd al-Wāḥid b. Hubayrah had joined him, as previously mentioned.
