Translation

✧ The nuqabāʾ (representatives) were twelve men, chosen by Muḥammad b. ʿAlī from among the seventy who had responded to him when he sent his messenger to Khurāsān in the year 103 or 104 AH. He described for them a description of justice. Among them from Khuzāʿah were: Sulaymān b. Kathīr, Mālik b. al-Haytham, Ziyād b. Ṣāliḥ, Ṭalḥah b. Ruzayq, and ʿAmr b. Aʿyan. From Ṭayyiʾ: Qaḥṭabah b. Shabīb b. Khālid b. Maʿdān. From Tamīm: Mūsā b. Kaʿb Abū ʿUyaynah, Lāhiz b. Qurayẓ, al-Qāsim b. Mujāshiʿ, and Aslam b. Sallām. From Bakr b. Wāʾil: Abū Dāwūd b. Ibrāhīm al-Shaybānī and Abū ʿAlī al-Harawī. It is said: Shibl b. Ṭahmān in place of ʿAmr b. Aʿyan, and ʿĪsā b. Kaʿb, and Abū al-Najm Ismāʿīl b. ʿImrān in place of Abū ʿAlī al-Harawī, and he is the son-in-law of Abū Muslim. Among the nuqabāʾ there was no one whose father was alive except Abū Manṣūr Ṭalḥah b. Ruzayq b. Saʿd, and he is Abū Zaynab al-Khuzāʿī. He had witnessed the war of Ibn al-Ashʿath, accompanied al-Muhallab and campaigned with him. Abū Muslim used to consult him in matters and ask him about them and about the wars he had witnessed. The bayʿah (pledge of allegiance) was: "I pledge allegiance to you [on the basis of] the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ and obedience to the chosen one from the Ahl al-Bayt of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Upon you for that is the covenant of Allah and His compact, divorce, manumission, and walking to the Sacred House of Allah, and that you will not ask for provision or food until your rulers initiate it for you."
