Creation of the Throne, the Footstool, and the Preserved Tablet
مُلَخَّصُ خَلْقِ الْعَرْشِ وَالْكُرْسِيِّ وَاللَّوْحِ الْمَحْفُوظِ إِنَّ أَعْظَمَ خَلْقٍ خَلَقَهُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى هُوَ الْعَرْشُ وَقَدْ جَاءَ ذِكْرُهُ فِي الْعَدِيدِ مِنْ آيَاتِ الْقُرْآنِ الْكَرِيمِ، كَمَا ذَكَرَ الْعُلَمَاءُ مِنْ صِفَةِ الْعَرْشِ أَنَّ اتِّسَاعَهُ مَسِيرَةُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ وَأَنَّ بُعْدَهُ عَنِ الْأَرْضِ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ وَأَنَّهُ خُلِقَ مِنْ يَاقُوتَةٍ حَمْرَاءَ وَأَنَّهُ فَوْقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ السَّبْعِ عَلَى صُورَةِ الْقُبَّةِ وَأَنَّهُ وَسِعَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَأَنَّهُ يَئِطُّ بِالتَّسْبِيحِ لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى وَالرَّحْمَنُ مُسْتَوٍ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَقَدَّسَ، وَأَنَّهُ تَحْمِلُهُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَأَنَّهُ فَوْقَ جَنَّةِ الْفِرْدَوْسِ. وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: الْكُرْسِيُّ مَوْضِعُ الْقَدَمَيْنِ، وَالْعَرْشُ لَا يُقَدِّرُ قَدْرَهُ إِلَّا اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ. وَالسَّمَوَاتُ السَّبْعُ وَالْأَرْضُ فِي الْكُرْسِيِّ كَحَلْقَةٍ فِي صَحْرَاءَ مُتَّسِعَةٍ، وَالْكُرْسِيُّ فِي الْعَرْشِ كَمَثَلِ حَلْقَةٍ فِي صَحْرَاءَ كَذَلِكَ. وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ: إِنَّ اللَّهَ خَلَقَ لَوْحًا مَحْفُوظًا مِنْ دُرَّةٍ بَيْضَاءَ صَفَحَاتِهَا مِنْ يَاقُوتَةٍ حَمْرَاءَ، قَلَمُهُ نُورٌ، وَكِتَابُهُ نُورٌ، لِلَّهِ فِيهِ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ سِتُّونَ وَثَلَاثُمِائَةِ لَحْظَةٍ، يَخْلَقُ وَيَرْزُقُ، وَيُمِيتُ وَيُحْيِي، وَيُعِزُّ وَيُذِلُّ، وَيَفْعَلُ مَا يَشَاءُ.
Translation
✧ Summary of the creation of the Throne, the Footstool, and the Preserved Tablet Indeed, the greatest creation that Allah, the Most High, created is the Throne (al-ʿArsh). Its mention has come in numerous verses of the Noble Qurʾān. The scholars have also mentioned concerning the description of the Throne that its expanse is a journey of fifty thousand years, that its distance from the earth is the same, that it was created from a red ruby, that it is above the seven heavens in the shape of a dome, that it encompasses the heavens and the earth, that it creaks from extolling Allah, the Most High, and that the Most Merciful (al-Raḥmān) is established upon the Throne, glorified and sanctified is He. They also mentioned that the angels carry it and that it is above the Garden of Firdaws. On the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, he said: The Footstool (al-Kursī) is the place of the two feet, and the Throne—no one can estimate its measure except Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. The seven heavens and the earth in relation to the Footstool are like a ring thrown into a vast desert, and the Footstool in relation to the Throne is likewise like a ring thrown into a desert. On the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: Indeed, Allah created a Preserved Tablet (lawḥan maḥfūẓan) from a white pearl, whose pages are of red ruby, its pen is light, and its writing is light. Allah has in it, every day, three hundred and sixty glances: He creates, provides, causes death, gives life, honors, humiliates, and does whatever He wills.
