Translation
✧ This al-Yasaʿ is al-Yasaʿ b. ʿAdī b. Shuwaylikh b. Ifrāʾīm b. Yūsuf b. Yaʿqūb. Wahb b. Munabbih said: He is al-Yasaʿ b. Khuṭūb, and it is said: Ibn Akhṭūb. Some scholars have distinguished between al-Yasaʿ who accompanied Ilyās and Ibn Akhṭūb, saying: They are two, and Ibn Akhṭūb did not accompany Ilyās, and he is not mentioned in the Qurʾān. Al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū al-Qāsim b. ʿAsākir said, in the letter yāʾ of his Tārīkh: al-Yasaʿ; he is al-Asbāṭ b. ʿAdī b. Shūtalm b. Afrāthīm b. Yūsuf b. Yaʿqūb b. Isḥāq b. Ibrāhīm al-Khalīl. And it is said: He is the paternal cousin of Ilyās the prophet, upon them both be peace. And it is said: He was hiding with him on Mount Qāsiyūn from the king of Baʿlabakk, then he went with him to it, and when Ilyās was raised, al-Yasaʿ succeeded him among his people, and God made him a prophet after him. ʿAbd al-Munʿim b. Idrīs b. Sinān mentioned that from his father, from Wahb b. Munabbih. He said: And another said: al-Asbāṭ was in Bāniyās. Then Ibn ʿAsākir mentioned the reading of one who read al-Yasaʿ, with tashdīd and without tashdīd, and one who read al-Laysaʿ, which is one name for a prophet among the prophets.
