Translation

✧ The Khurūj (Revolt) of al-Ṣaḥārī b. Shabīb In the year one hundred and nineteen, al-Ṣaḥārī b. Shabīb b. Yazīd rose in revolt in the area of Ḥubal. He had gone to Khālid asking him for the stipend (al-farīḍah). Khālid said, “What would the son of Shabīb do with a stipend?” So he went away, and Khālid regretted it and feared that he would cause a breach against him. He sought him, but he did not return to him. He traveled until he came to Ḥubal, where there were a number of men from Banū Taym al-Lāt b. Thaʿlabah, and he informed them. They said, “What do you hope from the son of the Christian woman? You ought rather to go against him with the sword and strike him with it.” He said, “By God, I did not want the stipend, and I wanted nothing but to gain access to him so that he would not suspect me, then kill him in revenge for so-and-so,” meaning by so-and-so a man of the quietists of the Ṣufriyyah whom Khālid had killed in retaliation (ṣabran). Then he called them to go out with him, and thirty men from among them followed him, and he set out with them. News of him reached Khālid, and he said, “I had feared this from him.” Then Khālid sent an army against him, and they met him in the area of al-Manādhir. He fought them a fierce battle, and they killed him and all his companions.
