Translation
✧ Mention of several events In the year one hundred and eighteen, Hishām dismissed Khālid b. ʿAbd al-Malik b. al-Ḥārith b. al-Ḥakam from Madinah and appointed over it his maternal uncle Muḥammad b. Hishām b. Ismāʿīl. A letter came to Abū Bakr b. Ḥazm on the day of Khālid's dismissal from Madinah concerning his governorship, so he ascended the pulpit and led the people in prayer for six days. Then Muḥammad b. Hishām arrived from Makkah as governor of Madinah. In it, Marwān b. Muḥammad b. Marwān raided from Armīniyyah and entered the land of Wartanīs through three gates. Wartanīs fled from him to the Khazars and took refuge in his fortress. Marwān besieged him, set up mangonels against it, and Wartanīs was killed—some of those who passed by him killed him and sent his head to Marwān. Marwān displayed it to the people of his fortress, and they surrendered to his judgment. He killed the fighters and took the offspring captive. In it, Muʿāwiyah and Sulaymān, the two sons of Hishām b. ʿAbd al-Malik, raided the land of the Byzantines.
