The Year 110 of the Prophetic Hijrah
Translation
✧ In the year 110 of the Prophetic Hijrah, Maslamah b. ʿAbd al-Malik fought the greatest king of the Turks, Khāqān, in great multitudes. They stood facing each other for about a month, then Allah routed Khāqān in the winter season, and Maslamah returned safe and enriched with spoils. He took the route of Dhū al-Qarnayn on his return to al-Shām, and this expedition was called the Expedition of the Mud, because they traversed flooded places and areas of drowning in which many beasts perished, and many people became mired in mud, and they did not escape until they had endured severe hardships and terrible, great horrors.
