حَالِ الدُّعَاةِ لِبَنِي الْعَبَّاسِ قِيلَ: وَفِي سنة سبع ومائة وَجَّهَ بُكَيْرُ بْنُ مَاهَانَ: أَبَا عِكْرِمَةَ، وَأَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّادِقَ، وَمُحَمَّدَ بْنَ خُنَيْسٍ، وَعَمَّارًا الْعَبَّادِيَّ، وَزِيَادًا خَالَ الْوَلِيدِ الْأَزْرَقِ، فِي عِدَّةٍ مِنْ شِيعَتِهِمْ دُعَاةً إِلَى خُرَاسَانَ، فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ كِنْدَةَ إِلَى أَسَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، فَوَشَى بِهِمْ إِلَيْهِ، فَأُتِيَ بِأَبِي عِكْرِمَةَ، وَمُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خُنَيْسٍ، وَعَامَّةِ أَصْحَابِهِ، وَنَجَا عَمَّارٌ، فَقَطَعَ أَسَدٌ أَيْدِي مَنْ ظَفِرَ بِهِ مِنْهُمْ وَصَلَبَهُمْ، وَأَقْبَلَ عَمَّارٌ إِلَى بُكَيْرِ بْنِ مَاهَانَ، فَأَخْبَرَهُ [ الْخَبَرَ ]، فَكَتَبَ إِلَى مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ بِذَلِكَ، فَأَجَابَهُ: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي صَدَّقَ دَعْوَتَكُمْ وَمَقَالَتَكُمْ، وَقَدْ بَقِيَتْ مِنْكُمْ قَتْلَى، سَتُقْتَلُ. وَقِيلَ: أَوَّلُ مَنْ قَدِمَ خُرَاسَانَ مِنْ دُعَاةِ بَنِي الْعَبَّاسِ زِيَادٌ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ مَوْلَى هَمْدَانَ فِي وِلَايَةِ أَسَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، بَعَثَهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: ادْعُ النَّاسَ إِلَيْنَا، وَانْزِلْ فِي الْيَمَنِ وَأَلْطِفْ مُضَرَ، فَقَدِمَ وَدَعَا إِلَى بَنِي الْعَبَّاسِ، وَذَكَرَ سِيرَةَ بَنِي مَرْوَانَ وَظُلْمَهُمْ، وَجَعَلَ يُطْعِمُ النَّاسَ الطَّعَامَ، وَكَانَ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ فَقَتَلَهُمْ أَسَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ.
Translation
✧ The situation of the propagandists of the Banū al-ʿAbbās It is said: In the year 107, Bukayr b. Māhān dispatched Abū ʿIkrimah, Abū Muḥammad al-Ṣādiq, Muḥammad b. Khunays, ʿAmmār al-ʿAbbādī, and Ziyād the maternal uncle of al-Walīd al-Azraq, along with a number of their followers, as propagandists to Khurāsān. A man from Kindah came to Asad b. ʿAbd Allāh and informed against them. Abū ʿIkrimah, Muḥammad b. Khunays, and most of their companions were seized, while ʿAmmār escaped. Asad cut off the hands of those among them whom he captured and crucified them. ʿAmmār went to Bukayr b. Māhān and told him the news, so he wrote to Muḥammad b. ʿAlī about that. He replied: 'Praise be to God who confirmed your call and your words; some of you will be killed, and they will indeed be killed.' It is also said: The first of the propagandists of the Banū al-ʿAbbās to arrive in Khurāsān was Ziyād Abū Muḥammad, a client of Hamdān, during the governorship of Asad b. ʿAbd Allāh. Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbbās sent him and said: 'Call the people to us, settle among the Yemenis, and be gentle with Muḍar.' He arrived and called to the Banū al-ʿAbbās, mentioning the conduct of the Banū Marwān and their oppression, and he began feeding the people. He was among a group, and Asad b. ʿAbd Allāh killed them.
