Then the Year Eighty-Eight Began

عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بُسْرِ بْنِ أَبِي بُسْرٍ الْمَازِنِيُّ وَمِمَّنْ تُوُفِّيَ فِيهَا مِنَ الْأَعْيَانِ: عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بُسْرِ بْنِ أَبِي بُسْرٍ الْمَازِنِيُّ   صَحَابِيٌّ كَأَبِيهِ، سَكَنَ حِمْصَ، وَرَوَى عَنْهُ جَمَاعَةٌ مِنَ التَّابِعِينَ. قَالَ الْوَاقِدِيُّ: تُوُفِّيَ فِي سَنَةِ ثَمَانٍ وَثَمَانِينَ، عَنْ أَرْبَعٍ وَتِسْعِينَ سَنَةً. زَادَ غَيْرُهُ: وَهُوَ آخِرُ مَنْ تُوَفِّيَ مِنَ الصَّحَابَةِ بِالشَّامِ. وَقَدْ جَاءَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ أَنَّهُ يَعِيشُ قَرْنًا. فَعَاشَ مِائَةَ سَنَةٍ. وقيل تُوُفِّيَ فِي سَنَةِ تِسْعٍ وَثَمَانِينَ. وَالْأَوَّلُ أَصَحُّ. عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي أَوْفَى عَلْقَمَةُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي أَوْفَى عَلْقَمَةُ  بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ الْخُزَاعِيُّ ثُمَّ الْأَسْلَمِيُّ صَحَابِيٌّ جَلِيلٌ، وَهُوَ آخِرُ مَنْ بَقِيَ مِنَ الصَّحَابَةِ بِالْكُوفَةِ، وَكَانَتْ وَفَاتُهُ فِيمَا قَالَهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ سَنَةَ تِسْعٍ أَوْ ثَمَانٍ وَثَمَانِينَ. وَقَالَ الْوَاقِدِيُّ وَغَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ: سَنَةَ سِتٍّ وَثَمَانِينَ، وَقَدْ جَاوَزَ الْمِائَةَ، وَقِيلَ: قَارَبَهَا. ؓ. هِشَامُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ هِشَامِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ وَفِيهَا تُوُفِّيَ هِشَامُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ هِشَامِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ  الْمَخْزُومِيُّ الْمَدَنِيُّ وَكَانَ حَمَا عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ مَرْوَانَ وَنَائِبَهُ عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ، وَهُوَ الَّذِي ضَرَبَ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيِّبِ كَمَا تَقَدَّمَ، ثُمَّ قَدِمَ دِمَشْقَ فَمَاتَ بِهَا، وَهُوَ أَوَّلُ مَنْ أَحْدَثَ دِرَاسَةَ الْقُرْآنِ بِجَامِعِ دِمَشْقَ، فَمَاتَ بِهَا فِي السَّبْعِ. حَكِيمُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ الْعَنْسِيُّ الشَّامِيُّ حَكِيمُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ الْعَنْسِيُّ الشَّامِيُّ   لَهُ رِوَايَةٌ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ أَحَدٌ فِي الشَّامِ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَعِيبَ الْحَجَّاجَ عَلَانِيَةً إِلَّا هُوَ وَابْنُ مُحَيْرِيزٍ أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، قُتِلَ فِي غَزْوَةِ طُوَانَةَ مِنْ بِلَادِ الرُّومِ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. سَهْلُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيُّ وَفِيهَا مَاتَ سَهْلُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيُّ  ، وَقِيلَ: بَلْ سَنَةَ إِحْدَى وَتِسْعِينَ، وَلَهُ مِائَةُ سَنَةٍ.

Translation

✧ ʿAbd Allāh b. Busr b. Abī Busr al-Māzinī Among the notable figures who died in it: ʿAbd Allāh b. Busr b. Abī Busr al-Māzinī a Companion like his father, he resided in Ḥimṣ, and a group of the Tābiʿūn narrated from him. Al-Wāqidī said: He died in the year eighty-eight, at the age of ninety-four. Others added: And he was the last of the Companions to die in Syria. It has come in a ḥadīth that he would live for a century. So he lived one hundred years. It was also said that he died in the year eighty-nine. The first is more correct. ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Awfā ʿAlqama ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Awfā ʿAlqama b. Khālid b. al-Ḥārith al-Khuzāʿī then al-Aslamī a noble Companion, and he was the last of the Companions remaining in Kūfa. His death was, according to what al-Bukhārī said, in the year eighty-nine or eighty-eight. Al-Wāqidī and more than one said: in the year eighty-six, and he had passed one hundred, and it was said: he approached it. ؓ. Hishām b. Ismāʿīl b. Hishām b. al-Walīd In it died Hishām b. Ismāʿīl b. Hishām b. al-Walīd al-Makhzūmī al-Madanī He was the father-in-law of ʿAbd al-Malik b. Marwān and his governor over Madinah. He is the one who struck Saʿīd b. al-Musayyib as has preceded. Then he came to Damascus and died there. He was the first to introduce the study of the Qurʾān in the mosque of Damascus, and he died there in the [year] seven. Ḥakīm b. ʿUmayr al-ʿAnsī al-Shāmī Ḥakīm b. ʿUmayr al-ʿAnsī al-Shāmī He has narrations, and there was no one in Syria who could openly criticize al-Ḥajjāj except him and Ibn Muḥayrīz Abū al-Aḥwaṣ. He was killed in the raid of Ṭuwāna in the land of the Romans in this year. Sahl b. Saʿd al-Sāʿidī In it died Sahl b. Saʿd al-Sāʿidī, and it was said: rather in the year ninety-one, and he was one hundred years old.
