The story of Moses the one who spoke with Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)
[احْتِرَاقُ ابْنَيْ هَارُونَ] قَالَ وَهْبُ بْنُ مُنَبِّهٍ: كَانَ يُسْرَجُ فِي بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ أَلْفُ قِنْدِيلٍ، وَكَانَ يَخْرُجُ زَيْتٌ مِنْ طُورِ سَيْنَاءَ مِثْلَ عُنُقِ الْبَعِيرِ حَتَّى يُصَبَّ فِي الْقِنْدِيلِ، وَلَا يُمَسَّ بِالْأَيْدِي، وَكَانَتْ تَنْحَدِرُ نَارٌ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ بَيْضَاءُ فَيُسْرَجُ بِهَا، وَكَانَ يَلِي السِّرَاجَ ابْنَا هَارُونَ. فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ تَعَالَى إِلَيْهِمَا: أَنْ لَا تُسْرِجَا بِنَارِ الدُّنْيَا، فَأَبْطَأَتِ النَّارُ عَنْهُمَا عَشِيَّةً، فَعَمَدَا إِلَى نَارٍ مِنْ نَارِ الدُّنْيَا فَأَسْرَجَا بِهَا، فَانْحَدَرَتِ النَّارُ فَأَحْرَقَتْهُمَا. فَخَرَجَ الصَّرِيخُ إِلَى مُوسَى فَخَرَجَ إِلَى الْمَوْضِعِ الَّذِي كَانَ يُنَاجِي فِيهِ رَبَّهُ، فَقَالَ: أَيْ رَبِّ ابْنَا هَارُونَ أَخِي، قَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَنْزِلَتَهُمَا مِنِّي، فَانْحَدَرَتِ النَّارُ فَأَحْرَقَتْهُمَا، وَنَادَاهُ: يَا مُوسَى هَكَذَا أَفْعَلُ بِأَوْلِيَائِي إِذَا عَصَوْنِي، فَكَيْفَ أَفْعَلُ بِأَعْدَائِي.
Translation
✧ [The Burning of Aaron's Two Sons] Wahb b. Munabbih said: In the House of the Sanctuary (Bayt al-Maqdis) a thousand lamps used to be lit, and oil used to flow from Mount Sinai like the neck of a camel until it was poured into the lamps, without being touched by hands. A white fire used to descend from heaven and with it they were lit. The two sons of Aaron were in charge of the lamps. Allah, exalted is He, revealed to them: Do not light them with earthly fire. One evening the fire was late in coming to them, so they turned to a fire from earthly fire and lit the lamps with it. Then the heavenly fire descended and burned them both. A cry went out to Moses, and he went out to the place where he used to converse with his Lord. He said: O Lord, the two sons of Aaron my brother! You know their standing with me, yet the fire descended and burned them both. He called out to him: O Moses, thus do I deal with My friends when they disobey Me; how then shall I deal with My enemies?
