The Year Seventy of the Hijrah
يَوْمُ الْمَعَارِكِ وَالْمَعَارِكُ بَيْنَ الْحَضْرِ وَالْعَتِيقِ مِنْ أَرْضِ الْمَوْصِلِ، اجْتَمَعَتْ تَغْلِبُ بِهَذَا الْمَكَانِ فَالْتَقَوْا هُمْ وَقَيْسٌ، فَاقْتَتَلُوا بِهِ فَاشْتَدَّ قِتَالُهُمْ، فَانْهَزَمَتْ تَغْلِبُ، وَقَالَ ابْنُ صَفَّارٍ: وَلَقَدْ تَرَكْنَا بِالْمَعَارِكِ مِنْكُمُ وَالْحَضْرِ وَالثَّرْثَارِ أَجْسَادًا جُثَا فَيُقَالُ: إِنَّ يَوْمَ الْمَعَارِكِ وَالْحَضْرِ وَاحِدٌ، هَزَمُوهُمْ إِلَى الْحَضْرِ، وَقَتَلُوا مِنْهُمْ بَشَرًا كَثِيرًا. وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: هُمَا يَوْمَانِ كَانَا لِقَيْسٍ. وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ.
Translation
✧ The Day of al-Maʿārik And al-Maʿārik is between al-Ḥaḍr and al-ʿAtīq in the land of al-Mawṣil. Taghlib gathered at this place, and they and Qays met, and they fought there, and their fighting intensified, and Taghlib was defeated. And Ibn Ṣaffār said: And we left at al-Maʿārik of you and al-Ḥaḍr and al-Tharthār bodies fallen upon their faces It is said that the day of al-Maʿārik and al-Ḥaḍr is one and the same: they routed them to al-Ḥaḍr and killed many people among them. Others said they are two days that belonged to Qays. And Allah knows best.
