The Year Seventy of the Hijrah
يَوْمُ السُّكَيْرِ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْخَابُورِ، يُسَمَّى سُكَيْرَ الْعَبَّاسِ. ثُمَّ اجْتَمَعُوا وَالْتَقَوْا بِالسُّكَيْرِ، وَعَلَى قَيْسٍ عُمَيْرُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ، وَعَلَى تَغْلِبَ وَالنَّمِرِ يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَوْبَرٍ، فَاقْتَتَلُوا قِتَالًا شَدِيدًا، فَانْهَزَمَتْ تَغْلِبُ وَالنَّمِرُ، وَهَرَبَ عُمَيْرُ بْنُ جَنْدَلٍ، وَهُوَ مِنْ فُرْسَانِ تَغْلِبَ، فَقَالَ عُمَيْرُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ: وَأَفْلَتَنَا يَوْمَ السُّكَيْرِ ابْنُ جَنْدَلٍ عَلَى سَابِحٍ عُوجِ اللَّبَانِ مُثَابِرِ وَنَحْنُ كَرَرْنَا الْخَيْلَ قِدْمًا شَوَاذِبًا دِقَاقَ الْهَوَادِي دَامِيَاتِ الدَّوَائِرِ وَقَالَ ابْنُ صَفَّارٍ: صَبَحْنَاكُمْ بِهِنَّ عَلَى سُكَيْرٍ وَلَاقَيْتُمْ هُنَاكَ الْأَقْوَرِينَا
Translation
✧ The Day of al-Sukayr It is on the Khābūr, called Sukayr al-ʿAbbās. Then they gathered and met at al-Sukayr, with ʿUmayr b. al-Ḥubāb over Qays, and Yazīd b. Hawbar over Taghlib and al-Namir. They fought a fierce battle, and Taghlib and al-Namir were defeated, and ʿUmayr b. Jandal fled, he being one of the horsemen of Taghlib. ʿUmayr b. al-Ḥubāb said: Ibn Jandal escaped us on the day of al-Sukayr on a swift horse, crooked in the chest, persevering, and we turned back the horses as lean, emaciated ones, slender in the necks, bleeding in the flanks. Ibn Ṣaffār said: We attacked you at dawn with them upon Sukayr, and there you met the mighty ones.
