Translation
✧ The Second Day of al-Tharthār Then Qays gathered, sought reinforcements, and prepared, with ʿUmayr b. al-Ḥubāb over them, and Zufar b. al-Ḥārith came to them from Qarqīsiyā, and he was the chief of Banū Taghlib and al-Namir, and with them was Ibn Hawbar. They met at al-Tharthār, and they fought the most severe fighting that people had fought, and Banū ʿĀmir were routed, and they had been on the flank of Qays. Sulaym and Aʿṣar held firm until Taghlib and those with them were routed, and the two sons of ʿAbd Yashūʿ and others among the nobles of Taghlib were killed. ʿUmayr b. al-Ḥubāb said: May my soul be a ransom for the horsemen of al-Tharthār, and what I have gathered of family and wealth. And ʿĀmir turned away from us and fled, while around me from Rabīʿah were like mountains. I fought them with dark horses from Sulaym, and Aʿṣar like untamed stallions coming to water. And Zufar b. al-Ḥārith said: Is there one to convey from me to ʿUmayr the message of a sincere adviser, though he blames him? Shall we leave the tribe of Dhū Yaman and Kalb, and make our striving with you among Nizār? Like one who leans upon one of his hands, and it failed him through weakness and fracture.
